Radio system overview: Notes
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 27 other vehicles, including the 2002 Volkswagen Cabrio, 2001 Volkswagen Cabrio, 2000 Volkswagen Cabrio, 1999 Volkswagen Jetta, and 1999 Volkswagen Golf. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:
Before working on the electrical system:
- Obtain radio anti -theft code.
- Ignition OFF !
- Disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap.
NOTE:
After reconnecting battery:
- Activate vehicle equipment such as radio, clock and power windows as per Repair Manual and/or Owner's Manual.
- On vehicles equipped with OBD II, activate readiness code. Refer to READ MEASURING VALUE BLOCK (FUNCTION 08) .

- Right front tweeter -R22-
- Dome tweeter
- Diameter: 100 mm (3.9 in.)
- Mounted on base in instrument panel
- Removing/installing. Refer to Right front tweeter -R22-, removing and installing
- Stereo radio
- Installed in instrument panel
- Removing and installing (Deluxe &Premium), refer to RADIO (DELUXE AND PREMIUM), REMOVING AND INSTALLING
- Removing and installing (Sound System), refer to RADIO (SOUND SYSTEM), REMOVING AND INSTALLING
- Securing antenna cable to radio. Refer Securing antenna cable to radio
- Cassette storage (where applicable)
- Installed in front of center console
- Removing/installing. Refer to Cassette storage box, removing and installing
- Removing/installing light bulb. Refer to Cassette storage box light bulb, removing and installing
- Roof-mounted antenna, amplified
- Installed on certain models only; replaces telescoping antenna -8-
- Assembly, refer to AMPLIFIED ROOF-MOUNTED ANTENNA, REMOVING AND INSTALLING
- Left rear woofer -R15-
- Diameter: 168 mm (6.6 in.)
- Right rear woofer -R17- is identical 2-door:
- In rear side panel; removing and installing. Refer to Rear woofer (2-door), removing and installing
4-door:
- In rear door panel; removing and installing. Refer to Rear woofer (4-door, except Jetta from 1996 m.y.), removing and installing
Jetta from 1996 m.y.:
- In rear parcel shelf; removing and installing. Refer to Rear woofer (Jetta from 1996 m.y.), removing and installing
- Left rear tweeter -R14-
- Dome tweeter
- Connected to rear base speaker
- Right rear tweeter -R16- is identical
2-door:
- Mounted on rear side panel;
- Removing/installing. Refer to Rear tweeter (2-door), removing and installing
4-door:
- Mounted near door pull;
- Removing/installing. Refer to Rear tweeter (4-door, except Jetta from 1996 m.y.), removing and installing
Jetta from 1996 m.y.:
- In rear parcel shelf;
- Removing/installing. Refer to Rear tweeter (Jetta from 1996 m.y.), removing and installing
- Left front woofer -R21-
- Diameter: 168 mm (6.6 in.)
- In front door panel
- Removing/installing. Refer to Front woofer, removing and installing
- Right front woofer -R23- is identical
- Telescoping antenna -R11-
- Installed on certain models only, where roof -mounted antenna -4- is not used
