Connect VAG 1551 Scan Tool and select function (check control module)

All fuses OK according to wiring diagram.
Battery positive voltage (B+) OK (at least 9 V).

NOTE:

The airbag system is switched off during the airbag On Board Diagnostic (OBD) program sequence.
The DTC memory can be erased only after repairs have been completed and DTC memory has been checked again.

With the ignition switched off, connect VAG 1551 Scan Tool with adapter wire VAG 1551/1 to the Data Link Connector (DLC) as follows:

Unclip cover for DLC below heater/ventilation controls.
First connect black connector of VAG 1551/1 Scan Tool to black DLC connector of vehicle (voltage supply).

* Operating modes 1 and 2 are displayed alternately.

NOTE: Do not connect the white connector if you do not get a display. Check the voltage supply for VAG 1551 Scan Tool according to applicable wiring diagram.

Connect white connector for VAG 1551 Scan Tool to vehicle DLC. The blue connector is not used.

NOTE:

Additional operating instructions can be printed out by pressing the HELP button on the VAG 1551 Scan Tool.
The --> button advances the Scan Tool program sequence.
The PRINT button switches the printer on (indicator lamp in button lights up).

Switch ignition on.
Press button -1- for "Rapid data transfer" operating mode.

Press buttons -1- and -5- to insert "Airbag" address word 15

Press -Q- button to confirm input.

Airbag Control Module identification (example) will be displayed.

NOTE:

If any other message appears in the display, the possible causes of the malfunction can be printed out by pressing the HELP button.

The ignition must be switched on.

Malfunctions have occurred at the start or during the program (external interference)

Check Data Link Connector (DLC) adapter harness, voltage supply (B+) and Ground (GND) connections.

- After repairing the possible causes of the malfunction, again enter address word 15 for "airbag" and press -Q- button to confirm input.

After pressing the --> button, the VAG 1551 Scan Tool returns to the beginning of the program.
