Front Passenger Airbag Assembly: Removal

  1. PRECAUTION 
    CAUTION: Be sure to read Precaution thoroughly before servicing (See PRECAUTION ).
  2. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL BOX DOOR SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    HINT:

    Refer to the procedure up to Remove No. 1 Instrument Panel Box Door Sub-assembly (See REMOVAL ).

  3. DISCONNECT INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Check that the ignition switch is off.
    2. Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal.
      CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
    3. Disconnect the connector.
    NOTE: When disconnecting the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.
  4. REMOVE UPPER INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  5. REMOVE HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT ASSEMBLY  (See DISASSEMBLY )

  6. REMOVE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 screws.

    2. Lean the instrument panel as shown the illustration and disengage the 5 hooks.

    3. Disengage the 5 hooks and remove the front passenger airbag assembly from the upper instrument panel sub-assembly as shown in the illustration.

  7. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using a screwdriver with the tip wrapped with protective tape, disconnect the 2 airbag connectors and remove the clamp.
      NOTE: When disconnecting the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

    2. Remove the clamp and instrument panel wire assembly from the front passenger airbag assembly.
