Upper Instrument Panel: Removal
- PRECAUTION
(See PRECAUTION )
- TURN FRONT WHEELS TO FACE STRAIGHT AHEAD
- DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
- REMOVE LOWER NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE STEERING PAD (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE CENTER INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Disengage the 14 claws and 2 guides.
- Disconnect each connector.
- Disengage the claw and remove the center instrument cluster finish panel sub-assembly as shown in the illustration.
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Disengage the 5 claws.
- Disconnect the connector and remove the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assembly.
- REMOVE METER HOOD SUB-ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- DISCONNECT FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP LH (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH (w/o Curtain Shield Airbag) (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH (w/ Curtain Shield Airbag) (See REMOVAL )
- DISCONNECT FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP RH
HINT:
Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.
- REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH (w/o Curtain Shield Airbag)
HINT:
Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.
- REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH (w/ Curtain Shield Airbag) (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL ASSEMBLY
- Disengage the 7 claws.
- Disconnect each connector and remove the lower instrument panel finish panel assembly.
- REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Manual Transaxle)
- Turn the shift lever knob counterclockwise and remove the shift lever knob sub-assembly.
- REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Automatic Transaxle)
- Turn the shift lever knob counterclockwise and remove the shift lever knob sub-assembly.
- REMOVE CENTER INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL ASSEMBLY (for Manual Transaxle)
- Disengage the 9 claws and remove the center instrument cluster finish panel assembly.
- REMOVE CENTER INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL ASSEMBLY (for Automatic Transaxle)
- Disengage the 9 claws.
- Disconnect the connector and remove the center instrument cluster finish panel assembly.
- REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR ASSEMBLY
- Disengage the claw and release the glove compartment door stopper.
- Bend portions (A) and (B) in the direction indicated by the arrows in the illustration to release the 2 stoppers, and lower the glove compartment door assembly until the front of the door is level.
- Pull the glove compartment door assembly horizontally toward the rear of the vehicle to release the 2 hinges, and remove the glove compartment door assembly.
NOTE: Pulling the glove compartment door assembly upward to remove it causes the hinges to deform. Be sure to pull out the compartment door horizontally. - REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL BOX DOOR SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Disengage the 6 claws and remove the No. 1 instrument panel box door sub-assembly.
- DISCONNECT INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE UPPER INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Disconnect the connector.
- Remove the bolt <C>.
- Remove the passenger airbag bolt <A>.

- Disengage the 5 claws and 2 guides.
- Disengage the 5 claws and remove the upper instrument panel sub-assembly.
NOTE:
When removing the upper instrument panel sub-assembly, be careful not to damage it or the steering wheel assembly.
