Upper Instrument Panel: Removal

  1. PRECAUTION 

    (See PRECAUTION )

  2. TURN FRONT WHEELS TO FACE STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
  4. REMOVE LOWER NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER  (See REMOVAL )
  5. REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER  (See REMOVAL )
  6. REMOVE STEERING PAD  (See REMOVAL )
  7. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  8. REMOVE CENTER INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disengage the 14 claws and 2 guides.
    2. Disconnect each connector.

    3. Disengage the claw and remove the center instrument cluster finish panel sub-assembly as shown in the illustration.

  9. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disengage the 5 claws.
    2. Disconnect the connector and remove the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assembly.
  10. REMOVE METER HOOD SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  11. REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  12. DISCONNECT FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP LH (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  13. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH (w/o Curtain Shield Airbag) (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  14. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH (w/ Curtain Shield Airbag) (See  REMOVAL  )

  15. DISCONNECT FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP RH 

    HINT:

    Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.

  16. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH (w/o Curtain Shield Airbag) 

    HINT:

    Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.

  17. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH (w/ Curtain Shield Airbag) (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  18. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disengage the 7 claws.
    2. Disconnect each connector and remove the lower instrument panel finish panel assembly.

  19. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Manual Transaxle) 
    1. Turn the shift lever knob counterclockwise and remove the shift lever knob sub-assembly.

  20. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Automatic Transaxle) 
    1. Turn the shift lever knob counterclockwise and remove the shift lever knob sub-assembly.

  21. REMOVE CENTER INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL ASSEMBLY (for Manual Transaxle) 
    1. Disengage the 9 claws and remove the center instrument cluster finish panel assembly.

  22. REMOVE CENTER INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL ASSEMBLY (for Automatic Transaxle) 
    1. Disengage the 9 claws.
    2. Disconnect the connector and remove the center instrument cluster finish panel assembly.

  23. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disengage the claw and release the glove compartment door stopper.
    2. Bend portions (A) and (B) in the direction indicated by the arrows in the illustration to release the 2 stoppers, and lower the glove compartment door assembly until the front of the door is level.

    3. Pull the glove compartment door assembly horizontally toward the rear of the vehicle to release the 2 hinges, and remove the glove compartment door assembly.
    NOTE: Pulling the glove compartment door assembly upward to remove it causes the hinges to deform. Be sure to pull out the compartment door horizontally.

  24. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL BOX DOOR SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disengage the 6 claws and remove the No. 1 instrument panel box door sub-assembly.
  25. DISCONNECT INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  26. REMOVE UPPER INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the connector.
    2. Remove the bolt <C>.
    3. Remove the passenger airbag bolt <A>.

    4. Disengage the 5 claws and 2 guides.

    5. Disengage the 5 claws and remove the upper instrument panel sub-assembly.

NOTE: When removing the upper instrument panel sub-assembly, be careful not to damage it or the steering wheel assembly.
