Upper Instrument Panel: Installation

  1. INSTALL UPPER INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. When using a new upper instrument panel sub-assembly:
      1. Before installing the upper instrument panel sub-assembly, immediately twist and cut off the portions shown in the illustration (joints for moulding).

    2. Engage the 5 claws.

      NOTE: Do not allow the wire harness to get caught in the claws.
    3. Engage the 5 claws and the 2 guides.

    4. Install the bolt <C>.
    5. Install the passenger airbag bolt <A>.

      Torque: 20 N*m (204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf) 

    6. Connect the connector and install the upper instrument panel sub-assembly.

  2. CONNECT INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE ASSEMBLY  (See INSTALLATION )
  3. INSTALL NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL BOX DOOR SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Engage the 6 claws and install the No. 1 instrument panel box door sub-assembly.

  4. INSTALL GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Insert the glove compartment door assembly horizontally and engage the 2 hinges.
      NOTE: Engaging the hinges from the top will deform the hinges. Be sure to install the glove compartment door assembly horizontally.

    2. Bend portions (A) and (B) in the direction indicated by the arrows in the illustration to engage the 2 stoppers.
    3. Engage the claw, connect the glove compartment door stopper, and install the glove compartment door assembly.

  5. INSTALL CENTER INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL ASSEMBLY (for Manual Transaxle) 
    1. Engage the 9 claws and install the center instrument cluster finish panel assembly.
  6. INSTALL CENTER INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL ASSEMBLY (for Automatic Transaxle) 
    1. Connect the connector.

    2. Engage the 9 claws and install the center instrument cluster finish panel assembly.

  7. INSTALL SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Manual Transaxle) 
    1. Turn the shift lever knob clockwise and install the shift lever knob sub-assembly.

  8. INSTALL SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Automatic Transaxle) 
    1. Turn the shift lever knob clockwise and install the shift lever knob sub-assembly.
  9. INSTALL LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL ASSEMBLY 
    1. Connect each connector.

    2. Engage the 7 claws and install the lower instrument panel finish panel assembly.
  10. INSTALL FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH (w/o Curtain Shield Airbag) (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  11. INSTALL FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH (w/ Curtain Shield Airbag) (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  12. CONNECT FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP LH (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  13. INSTALL FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH (w/o Curtain Shield Airbag) 

    HINT:

    Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.

  14. INSTALL FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH (w/ Curtain Shield Airbag) (See  INSTALLATION  )

  15. CONNECT FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP RH 

    HINT:

    Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.

  16. INSTALL COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY  (See INSTALLATION )
  17. INSTALL METER HOOD SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See INSTALLATION )
  18. INSTALL INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Connect the connector.
    2. Engage the 5 claws and install the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assembly.

  19. INSTALL CENTER INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Engage the claw as shown in the illustration.
    2. Connect each connector.

    3. Engage the 14 claws and 2 guides to install the center instrument cluster finish panel sub-assembly.

  20. TURN FRONT WHEELS TO FACE STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  21. ADJUST SPIRAL CABLE  (See INSTALLATION )
  22. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY  (See INSTALLATION )
  23. INSTALL STEERING PAD  (See INSTALLATION )
  24. INSTALL LOWER NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER  (See INSTALLATION )
  25. INSTALL LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER  (See INSTALLATION )
  26. INSPECT STEERING WHEEL CENTER POINT 
  27. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
  28. INSPECT STEERING PAD  (See INSTALLATION )
  29. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT
