Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Lexus LS 430. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

HINT:

Start the inspection from step 1 in case of using the LEXUS hand-held tester and start from step  2 in case of not using LEXUS hand-held tester.

  1. Check tilt motor operation using LEXUS hand-held tester. 

    PREPARATION: 

    1. Connect the LEXUS hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn ignition switch ON and push the LEXUS hand-held tester main switch ON.
    3. Select the ACTIVE TEST mode on the LEXUS hand-held tester.

    CHECK: 

    Check that the steering wheel tilt up (down) and confirm that tilt position value change when the ACTIVE TEST carried out.

    OK: 

    Steering wheel must be moved upward (downward). Tilt position value must be changed.

    1. OK : Proceed to next circuit inspection shown on the problem symptoms table (See  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  ). 
    2. NG : Go to next step. 
  2. Check tilt motor. 

    PREPARATION: 

    1. Disconnect tilt motor connector and telescopic motor connector.
    2. Remove tilt motor (See DISASSEMBLY ).

    CHECK: 

    Connect telescopic motor connector to tilt motor. Then confirm that tilt motor moved when operating the manual switch.

    1. NG : Replace tilt motor. 
    2. OK : Go to next step. 
  3. Check for open or short circuit in harness and connector between power tilt and power telescopic ECU and tilt motor (See  HOW TO USE THE DIAGNOSTIC CHART AND INSPECTION PROCEDURE  ). 
    1. NG : Repair or replace harness or connector. 
    2. OK : Proceed to next circuit inspection shown on the problem symptoms table (See  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  ).
