DTC U0111-87: Lost Communication With Hybrid/EV Battery Energy Control Module "A" Missing Message: Notes

Outline of diagnosis: 

Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly could not receive the signal from Battery ECU assembly

(1 trip detection logic)

Trouble symptom: 

Wiring diagram: 

Hybrid system Ref. to WIRING SYSTEM (CROSSTREK MODEL (HEV))>HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE SYSTEM>WIRING DIAGRAM .

CAUTION: Before performing diagnosis, refer to "CAUTION" in "General Description". Ref. to P-HEV HYBRID POWERTRAIN CONTROL (DIAGNOSTICS)>GENERAL DESCRIPTION>CAUTION .

  1. CHECK DTC  .

    Read the DTC of [P-HEV High Voltage Battery] using the Subaru Select Monitor. Ref. to P-HEV HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY (DIAGNOSTICS)>DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) .

    Are any DTCs displayed?

    Yes  : Perform the diagnosis for the displayed DTCs. Ref. to P-HEV HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY (DIAGNOSTICS)>DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) .

    No  : Go to  2.

  2. CHECK Battery ECU assembly (POWER SUPPLY SYSTEM OF Battery ECU assembly) (OPEN CIRCUIT)  .
    CAUTION: Make sure to wear insulated gloves and protective goggles during the work.
    1. Check that the Service plug is disconnected. Ref. to HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE>SERVICE PLUG .
    2. Disconnect Battery ECU assembly connector (HV42).
    3. Connect the Battery (12V) ground terminal. Ref. to REPAIR CONTENTS>REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>BATTERY .
    4. Turn to IG ON.
    5. Using a tester, measure the voltage between Battery ECU assembly connector and chassis ground.

      Connector & terminal 

      (HV42) No. 1 (+) - Chassis ground (-):

      (HV42) No. 24 (+) - Chassis ground (-):

    Is the voltage 11 - 14 V?

    Yes  : Go to  3.

    No  : Check the ignition power supply circuit of Battery ECU assembly.

  3. CHECK Battery ECU assembly (GROUND SYSTEM OF Battery ECU assembly) (OPEN CIRCUIT)  .
    CAUTION: Make sure to wear insulated gloves and protective goggles during the work.
    1. Turn the ignition to OFF.
    2. Disconnect the ground terminal of Battery (12V). Ref. to REPAIR CONTENTS>REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>BATTERY .
    3. Using a tester, measure the resistance between Battery ECU assembly connector and chassis ground.

      Connector & terminal 

      (HV42) No. 9 - Chassis ground:

      (HV42) No. 29 - Chassis ground:

      (HV42) No. 53 - Chassis ground:

    Is the resistance less than 1 Ω?

    Yes  : Go to  4.

    No  : Repair or replace the Wire harness between Battery ECU assembly connector and chassis ground.

  4. CHECK Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly  .
    CAUTION: Make sure to wear insulated gloves and protective goggles during the work.

    Using a tester, measure the resistance between Battery ECU assembly connector terminals.

    Connector & terminal 

    (HV42) No. 5 - (HV42) No. 6:

    Is the resistance 108 - 132 Ω?

    Yes  : Replace Battery ECU assembly. Ref. to HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE>BATTERY CONTROL MODULE .

    No  : Go to  5.

  5. CHECK Wire harness AND CONNECTOR (Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly - Battery ECU assembly)  .
    CAUTION: Make sure to wear insulated gloves and protective goggles during the work.
    1. Disconnect Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector (i369).
    2. Disconnect Electric vehicle charger assembly connector (HV31).
    3. Using a tester, measure the resistance between Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector and Battery ECU assembly connector.

      Connector & terminal 

      (HV42) No. 5 - (i369) No. 34:

      (HV42) No. 6 - (i369) No. 35:

    Is the resistance less than 1 Ω?

    Yes  : Go to  6.

    No  : Repair or replace Wire harness between Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector and Battery ECU assembly connector.

  6. CHECK Wire harness AND CONNECTOR (Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly - Battery ECU assembly) (SHORT TO GROUND OR LINE-TO-LINE SHORT)  .
    CAUTION: Make sure to wear insulated gloves and protective goggles during the work.

    Using a tester, measure the resistance between terminals in Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector, and between Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector and chassis ground.

    Connector & terminal 

    (HV42) No. 5 - (HV42) No. 1 - 69:

    (HV42) No. 5 - Chassis ground:

    (HV42) No. 6 - (HV42) No. 1 - 69:

    (HV42) No. 6 - Chassis ground:

    Is the resistance 10 kΩ or more?

    Yes  : Replace Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly. Ref. to HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE>HYBRID POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE .

    No  : Repair or replace Wire harness between Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector and Battery ECU assembly connector.
