DTC P321E-9F: Motor/Generator Shutdown Signal Stuck Off: Notes

Outline of diagnosis:
At the inspection of the HV gate shutdown function (with READY ON → OFF), the inverter voltage (VH) decreased and the inverter current flew at the same time
(1 trip detection logic)
Trouble symptom:
Normal driving

- CHECK DTC

Read the DTC of [P-HEV Hybrid Powertrain Control] using the Subaru Select Monitor. Ref. to P-HEV HYBRID POWERTRAIN CONTROL (DIAGNOSTICS)>DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) .
NOTE:Malfunction contents Related DTC Sensor and actuator circuit malfunction P33B99F MOTOR/GENERATOR SHUTDOWN SIGNAL (HYBRID/EV SIDE) STUCK OFF P33BF9F MOTOR/GENERATOR SHUTDOWN SIGNAL (MG SIDE) STUCK OFF When "Only DTC P321E9F is displayed" or "DTC other than above is displayed", go to A.
When DTCs related to [P-HEV Hybrid Powertrain Control] mentioned above are simultaneously displayed, go to B.
Yes :
- Go to 2.
- Perform the diagnosis for the simultaneously displayed DTCs.
NOTE: If more than one DTC is simultaneously displayed, perform the diagnosis in the order described in the above.No : -
- CHECK CONNECTION CONDITION OF CONNECTOR (Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly CONNECTOR)

Check the connecting condition of connector (B606) in Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly and check the relevant terminals for contact pressure, deformation and intrusion of water or foreign matter. Ref. to HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE>HYBRID POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE .
Is there looseness at the connector connection, or any poor contact, deformation or intrusion of water or foreign matters at the relevant terminals?
Yes : Connect the connector securely. Or, repair or replace the faulty parts.
No : Go to 3.
- CHECK CONNECTION CONDITION OF CONNECTOR (Inverter with converter assembly LOW PRESSURE CONNECTOR)
.CAUTION: Make sure to wear insulated gloves and protective goggles during the work.
- Check that the Service plug is disconnected. Ref. to HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE>SERVICE PLUG .
- Check the connecting condition of connector (HV23) in Inverter with converter assembly and check the relevant terminals for contact pressure, deformation and intrusion of water or foreign matter.NOTE: When connecting the connector, insert to the end with the lock lever raised, then fold the lock lever completely until a click is heard. After connected, make sure that the lock claw does not loosen and pull the connector to see that it does not come off.
Is there looseness at the connector connection, or any poor contact, deformation or intrusion of water or foreign matters at the relevant terminals?
Yes : Connect the connector securely. Or repair the poor contact of connector.
No : Go to 4.
- CHECK Wire harness AND CONNECTOR (Inverter with converter assembly - Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly) (OPEN CIRCUIT)
.CAUTION: Make sure to wear insulated gloves and protective goggles during the work.
- Disconnect Inverter with converter assembly connector (HV23).
- Disconnect Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector (B606).
- Using a tester, measure the resistance between Inverter with converter assembly connector and Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector.

(B606) No. 25 - (HV23) No. 12:
Is the resistance less than 1 Ω?
Yes : Go to 5.
No : Repair or replace Wire harness between Inverter with converter assembly connector and Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector.
- CHECK Wire harness AND CONNECTOR (Inverter with converter assembly - Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly) (SHORT TO GROUND OR LINE-TO-LINE SHORT)
.CAUTION: Make sure to wear insulated gloves and protective goggles during the work.
Using a tester, measure the resistance between terminals in Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector, and between Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector and chassis ground.

(B606) No. 25 - Chassis ground:
Is the resistance 10 kΩ or more?
Yes : Go to 6.
No : Repair or replace Wire harness between Inverter with converter assembly connector and Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector.
- CHECK THE Inverter with converter assembly UNIT
.CAUTION: Make sure to wear insulated gloves and protective goggles during the work.
Using a tester, measure the resistance between Inverter with converter assembly terminals.
Connector & terminal
(HV23) No. 12 - (HV23) No. 1 - 24:
Is the resistance 2.65 - 3.55 kΩ?
Yes : Replace Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly. Ref. to HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE>HYBRID POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE .
No : Replace Inverter with converter assembly. Ref. to HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE>INVERTER AND CONVERTER ASSEMBLY .
