DTC P2120-12: Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch "D" Circuit Short To Auxiliary Battery: Notes

Outline of diagnosis:
+B power supply sneak path of main sensor system
The voltage of the main sensor remains at 4.8 V or more for two seconds
(1 trip detection logic)
Trouble symptom:
Reduced output power
Wiring diagram:
Hybrid system Ref. to WIRING SYSTEM (CROSSTREK MODEL (HEV))>HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE SYSTEM>WIRING DIAGRAM .
- CHECK DATA MONITOR (ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR NO. 1 VOLTAGE RATIO, ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR NO. 2 VOLTAGE RATIO)
.
- Turn to IG ON.
- Using the Subaru Select Monitor, display the following items in the [Data Monitor] of [P-HEV Hybrid Powertrain Control]. Ref. to P-HEV HYBRID POWERTRAIN CONTROL (DIAGNOSTICS)>DATA MONITOR
.
- Accelerator Position Sensor No. 1 Voltage %
- Accelerator Position Sensor No. 2 Voltage %
- Read the data with the accelerator pedal fully released, fully depressed, and fully released → fully depressed → fully released slowly.
Specification:

Yes : Even if DTC is displayed, the circuit has returned to a normal condition at this time. Reproduce the failure, and then perform the diagnosis again.
NOTE: In this case, temporary poor contact of connector, or temporary open or short circuit of the Wire harness may be the cause.No : Go to 2.
- CHECK CONNECTION CONDITION OF CONNECTOR (Accelerator pedal sensor CONNECTOR)
.
Check the connecting condition of connector (B315) in Accelerator pedal sensor and check the relevant terminals for contact pressure, deformation and intrusion of water or foreign matters. Ref. to SPEED CONTROL SYSTEM .
Is there looseness at the connector connection, or any poor contact, deformation or intrusion of water or foreign matters at the relevant terminals?
Yes : Connect the connector securely. Or repair the poor contact of connector.
No : Go to 3.
- CHECK CONNECTION CONDITION OF CONNECTOR (Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly CONNECTOR)
.
Check the connecting condition of connector (B605) in Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly and check the relevant terminals for contact pressure, deformation and intrusion of water or foreign matter. Ref. to HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE>HYBRID POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE .
Is there looseness at the connector connection, or any poor contact, deformation or intrusion of water or foreign matters at the relevant terminals?
Yes : Connect the connector securely. Or repair the poor contact of connector.
No : Go to 4.
- CHECK Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly (VOLTAGE CHECK)
.
- Disconnect Accelerator pedal sensor connector (B315).
- Turn to IG ON.
- Using a tester, measure the voltage between Accelerator pedal sensor connector terminals.
Connector & terminal
(B315) No. 4 (+) - (B315) No. 5 (-):
(B315) No. 1 (+) - (B315) No. 2 (-):
Is the voltage 4.5 - 5.5 V?
Yes : Go to 5.
No : Go to 6.
- CHECK Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly (RESISTANCE CHECK)
.
- Turn the ignition to OFF.
- Using a tester, measure the resistance between Accelerator pedal sensor connector terminals.

(B315) No. 6 - (B315) No. 5:
(B315) No. 3 - (B315) No. 2:
Is the resistance 36.60 - 41.61 kΩ?
Yes : Replace Accelerator pedal sensor. Ref. to SPEED CONTROL SYSTEM .
No : Go to 9.
- CHECK Wire harness AND CONNECTOR (Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly - Accelerator pedal sensor) (SHORT TO POWER SUPPLY)
.
- Turn the ignition to OFF.
- Disconnect Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector (B605).
- Turn to IG ON.
- Using a tester, measure the voltage between Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector and chassis ground.
Connector & terminal
(B605) No. 19 (+) - Chassis ground (-):
(B605) No. 18 (+) - Chassis ground (-):
(B605) No. 30 (+) - Chassis ground (-):
(B605) No. 29 (+) - Chassis ground (-):
Is the voltage less than 1 V?
Yes : Go to 7.
No : Repair or replace the Wire harness between Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector and Accelerator pedal sensor connector.
- CHECK Wire harness AND CONNECTOR (Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly - Accelerator pedal sensor) (OPEN CIRCUIT)
.
- Turn the ignition to OFF.
- Using a tester, measure the resistance between Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector and Accelerator pedal sensor connector.

(B315) No. 4 - (B605) No. 19:
(B315) No. 5 - (B605) No. 18:

Is the resistance less than 1 Ω?
Yes : Go to 8.
No : Repair or replace the Wire harness between Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector and Accelerator pedal sensor connector.
- CHECK Wire harness AND CONNECTOR (Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly - Accelerator pedal sensor) (SHORT TO GROUND OR LINE-TO-LINE SHORT)

Using a tester, measure the resistance between terminals in Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector, and between Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector and chassis ground.

Yes : Replace Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly. Ref. to HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE>HYBRID POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE .
No : Repair or replace the Wire harness between Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector and Accelerator pedal sensor connector.
- CHECK Wire harness AND CONNECTOR (Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly - Accelerator pedal sensor) (SHORT TO POWER SUPPLY)
.
- Disconnect Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector (B605).
- Turn to IG ON.
- Using a tester, measure the voltage between Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector and chassis ground.

Is the voltage less than 1 V?
Yes : Go to 10.
No : Repair or replace the Wire harness between Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector and Accelerator pedal sensor connector.
- CHECK Wire harness AND CONNECTOR (Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly - Accelerator pedal sensor) (OPEN CIRCUIT)

- Turn the ignition to OFF.
- Using a tester, measure the resistance between Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector and Accelerator pedal sensor connector.

Is the resistance less than 1 Ω?
Yes : Go to 11.
No : Repair or replace the Wire harness between Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector and Accelerator pedal sensor connector.
- CHECK Wire harness AND CONNECTOR (Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly - Accelerator pedal sensor) (SHORT TO GROUND OR LINE-TO-LINE SHORT)

Using a tester, measure the resistance between terminals in Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector, and between Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector and chassis ground.
