Inspection steps

  1. Reading the SSM3 data (ambient temperature input value)
    1. Using SSM3, display the [Current Data Display & Save] screen. Check the computer data. (Refer to CURRENT DATA DISPLAY & SAVE / SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK MODE  )
CRITERIA SSM3 DISPLAY: [EACH SYSTEM CHECK] →[COMBINATION METER] →[CURRENT DATA DISPLAY & SAVE]

Item Name [Item symbol] Description of item/display item Normal value Remarks
[Ambient Temperature] [Ambi Temp] Ambient air temperature is displayed.
      Display range: -40 to 87.5°C {-40 to 189.5°F}
      • In open circuit: (-40°C (-40°F)) is displayed.
      • In short-circuit: (87.5°C (189.5°F)) is displayed.
      Thermistor ASSY system
      RESULT

      Result Go to
The same value as the ambient temperature sensor is displayed (during the inspection according to the list of diagnostic codes) A
The same value as the ambient temperature sensor is displayed (during the inspection according to the symptom table) B
The displayed value is not the same as the ambient temperature sensor C

B: Go to the related circuit test listed on the symptom table. (Refer to SYMPTOM TABLE )

      C: Go to Step  3.

      A: Go to Next Step

  2. Checking diagnostic codes
    1. Clear the diagnostic code using the SSM3. (Refer to CHECKING/CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC CODES  )
    2. Using SSM3, check the diagnostic code again. (Refer to CHECKING/CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC CODES  )

      Criteria: No DTC output

NG: Replacement of the combination meter ASSY (refer to REMOVAL  )

      OK: Complete

  3. Unit inspection of thermistor ASSY
    1. Remove the thermistor ASSY. (Refer to COOLER THERMISTOR (AMBIENT SENSOR) )
    2. Inspect the individual thermistor ASSY. (Refer to UNIT INSPECTION )

NG: Replacement of thermistor ASSY (Refer to COOLER THERMISTOR (AMBIENT SENSOR) )

      OK: Go to Next Step

  4. Inspection of wire harness and connector (thermistor ASSY - combination meter ASSY)
NOTE: For inspection procedures and precautions, refer to INSPECTION PROCEDURES FOR ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS AND HOW TO PERFORM .
    1. Disconnect connector D7 of the combination meter ASSY.
    2. Measure the resistance between the terminals. (For terminal arrangement, refer to ECM TERMINAL ARRANGEMENT  .)
      RESISTANCE (OPEN CIRCUIT CHECK)

Inspection terminals (Terminal symbol) Inspection conditions Standard value
      A48-1 - D7-24(TAM) Always Less than 1 Ω
      A48-2 - D7-25(SG-) Always Less than 1 Ω
      RESISTANCE (SHORT CIRCUIT CHECK)

Inspection terminals Inspection conditions Standard value
A48-1 - Chassis ground Always 10 kΩ or more
A48-2 - Chassis ground Always 10 kΩ or more

NG: Repair or replacement of wiring harness or connector

OK: Replacement of the combination meter ASSY (refer to REMOVAL  )
