Air Bag Warning Light Stays Off
NOTE:
Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . After repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light to verify system is functioning correctly. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK .
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Inspect fuse No. 5 located in main fuse block. See Fig 1. If fuse is blown, replace fuse and go to step 5. If fuse is okay or blows after being replaced, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on (engine off). Observe other warning lights in instrument cluster. If all other warning lights are on except AIR BAG warning light, go to next step. If warning lights are not on, repair or replace body wiring harness as necessary and go to step 5.
- Turn ignition off and disconnect negative battery cable. Wait at least 20 seconds. Disconnect connector AB1 from body wiring harness connector B31. See Figure. Connector is located behind driver-side kick panel. Reconnect negative battery cable and turn ignition on (engine off). If AIR BAG warning light is on, go to next step. If AIR BAG warning light is not on, replace AIR BAG warning light bulb or instrument cluster printed circuit and go to step 5.
- Turn ignition off and disconnect negative battery cable. Wait 20 seconds. Reconnect connector AB1 to body wiring harness connector B31. Disconnect lower clockspring connectors AB3 and AB8. See Figure. Disconnect air bag control module connector AB6. Connect negative battery cable and turn ignition on (engine off). If AIR BAG warning light is on, replace air bag control module and go to next step. See CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If AIR BAG warning light is not on, replace air bag main harness and go to next step.
- Turn ignition off and disconnect negative battery terminal. Reconnect system components and activate air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Clear air bag system codes. See CLEARING CODES under DIAGNOSTICS. Check for normal air bag system operation. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK .
