Remove/Install Front Axle - AR33.10-P-0100SR

  Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
  Risk of poisoning  from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury from skin and eye contact with brake fluid Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Insert brake pedal jack with adapter for brake pedal jack between brake pedal and driver's seat, and press brake pedal approx. 2 cm NOTES Cover driver seat.
Otherwise the driver's seat may be soiled or damaged.

2 Disconnect battery ground line   AR54.10-P-0003SR
3 Secure vehicle on vehicle lift   AR00.60-P-0100SR
4 Detach both front wheels   AR40.10-P-1100SR
5 Remove front bumper Model 453.3/4 AR88.20-P-2000SRA
Model 453.0 AR88.20-P-2000SR
6 Remove wiper motor   AR82.30-P-6800SR
7 Remove screws/bolts (2) from suspension strut tower (3) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, suspension strut to body *BA32.25-P-1001-04Q 
8 Fix suspension strut (4), as shown, on stabilizer rod (5) with cable ties    
9 Unscrew nut (6)    
10 Fold fender liner (8) to the side and disconnect electrical connector (7)    
11 Unhook electrical line (9) from brackets (10)    
12 Remove retaining screw (11) and disconnect brake hose (12) from brake line (13) NOTES Collect brake fluid which runs out with an absorbent rag.
Otherwise, painted vehicle parts can be damaged.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Retaining screw, brake line to brake hose

13 Seal brake hose (13) and brake line (12) SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Fig 4
14 Unhook brake hose (12) from bracket (14) on suspension strut (4)    
15 Remove underfloor panels    
16 Turn steering to right until nut (19) is accessible    
17 Unscrew nut (19) and remove associated threaded pin TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, steering column linkage to steering gear *BA46.10-P-1003-05B 
18 Fold ball joint (20) on steering gear (21) upwards    
19 Disconnect electrical connection (22)    
20 REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS Position telescopic lifter with removal fixture centrally on front axle (1) 000 588 11 62 00 Major assembly mount   WS01.00-P-0092B

21 Remove bolts (23) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, front axle to body *BA33.10-P-1001-02A 
22 Remove screw/bolts (24) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, front axle to body *BA33.10-P-1001-02A 
23 Lower front axle (1) slightly until the screws/bolts (25) of the retaining plate (26) are accessible NOTES Make sure that the coolant hoses (29) are not under tension.
Otherwise coolant hoses (29) can get damaged.
NOTES Model 453 with code I01 (Air conditioning Plus) Model 453 with code I77 (Air conditioning, manual)
Make sure that the refrigerant line (28) is not under tension.
Otherwise refrigerant line (28) can get damaged.
 
24 Unscrew nut (27) of refrigerant line (28) Model 453 with code I01 (Air conditioning Plus)

25 Unscrew screw/bolts (25) of retaining plate (26) on right and left    
26 Fully lower front axle (1) INSTALLATION IMPORTANTInstallation:  Ensure that the guide pin of the radiator is seated correctly in the rubber guides (30).  
27 Install in the reverse order    
28 Bleed brake system   AR42.10-P-0010SR
29 Perform wheel alignment check   AR40.20-P-0200SR
