Remove/install coolant thermostat - AR20.10-P-2460ELS

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by fingers being jammed or pinched when removing, installing or aligning hoods, doors, trunk lid/rear-end door or sliding roof. No parts of the body or limbs should be within the operating area when the components are moving. AS00.00-Z-0011-01A
DANGER Risk of injury  to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolantspray. Risk of poisoning  from swallowing coolant. Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

1 Switch off ignition    
2 Drain coolant   AR20.00-P-1142EL 
3 Remove engine cover    
4 Remove engine air intake ducts upstream of air filter    
5 Disconnect Electrical connection on coolant thermostat heating element (R48)    
6 Detach coolant hose (1) on coolant temperature control housing (4)   AR09.41-P-1311-01AL
7 Detach water-cooled charge air cooler and draw to the front   AR09.41-P-6819ELS
8 Remove oil filter element    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP18.00-P-0101CWZ
    IMPORTANT Close off opening to timing case cover.  
9 Remove screw/bolts (3) and detach coolant line (5) at coolant temperature control housing (4)    
10 Disconnect electrical line on throttle valve actuator and place to one side    
11 Remove screw/bolts (2) and take off coolant temperature control housing (4) NOTES
The coolant thermostat must not be removed from coolant thermostat housing (4).
The coolant thermostat will be destroyed otherwise.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace O-ring and seal.
 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, thermostat to coolant pump/timing case cover *BA20.10-P-1002-01AA 
12 Install in the reverse order    
13 Check engine oil level; correct if necessary    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP18.00-P-0101CWZ
14 Check cooling system for leaktightness   AR20.00-P-1010EL 
DANGER Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
15 Perform an engine test run and check engine for leaktightness
