Standing/parking lights, general 

The standing lights/parking lights actuation serves the marking of the parked vehicle in darkness.

The standing/parking lights actuation is comprised of the following subfunctions:

• Standing lamp actuation function sequence 
• Function sequence for lights on reminder warning 
• Parking lights actuation function sequence 

Standing lamp actuation function sequence 

Turning the exterior lights switch (S1) to the standing lights position requests actuation of the standing lights.

The front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) reads in the status of the exterior lights switch directly and sends the "Standing lights ON" request via interior CAN (CAN B) to the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) and via chassis CAN 2 (CAN E2) to the left headlamp control unit (E1n9) and to the right headlamp control unit (E2n9).

On vehicles with code (550) Trailer hitch, the front SAM control unit sends the "Standing lights ON" request via interior CAN to the trailer recognition control unit (N28/1).

At the same time, the front SAM control unit sends the "Standing lights indicator lamp ON" request via interior CAN to the instrument cluster (A1), which then switches on the standing lights indicator lamp (A1e38). The left headlamp control unit actuates the following components in the left front lamp unit (E1):

• On vehicles without code (640) SAE dynamic LED headlamp for right-hand traffic and without code (641) Dynamic LED headlamp for left-hand traffic and without code (642) Dynamic LED headlamp for right-hand traffic:
  • Left parking light and daytime running light (E1e13)
  • Left front side marker lamp (E1e6) (with code (460) Canada version or code (494) USA version)
• On vehicles with code (640) SAE dynamic LED headlamp for right-hand traffic and without code (641) Dynamic LED headlamp for left-hand traffic and without code (642) Dynamic LED headlamp for right-hand traffic:
  • Left turn signal light, parking light, side marker lamp and daytime running light (E1e18)

The right headlamp control unit actuates the following components in the right front lamp unit (E2):

• On vehicles without code (640) SAE dynamic LED headlamp for right-hand traffic and without code (641) Dynamic LED headlamp for left-hand traffic and without code (642) Dynamic LED headlamp for right-hand traffic:
  • Right parking light and daytime running lamp (E2e13)
  • Right front side marker lamp (E2e6) (with code (460) Canada version or code (494) USA version)
• On vehicles with code (640) SAE dynamic LED headlamp for right-hand traffic and without code (641) Dynamic LED headlamp for left-hand traffic and without code (642) Dynamic LED headlamp for right-hand traffic:
  • Right turn signal light, parking light, side marker lamp and daytime running light (E2e18)

The rear SAM control unit actuates the following components:

• Left rear lamp unit (E3):
  • Left side marker lamp (E3e6) (with code (460) Canada version or code (494) USA version)
  • Left taillight and brake light (E3e17)
• Inner left rear lamp unit (E3/1):
  • Inner left taillight (E3/1e2),
• Right rear lamp unit (E4):
  • Right side marker lamp (E4e6) (with code (460) Canada version or code (494) USA version)
  • Right taillight and brake light (E4e17)
• Inner right rear lamp unit (E4/1):
  • Inner right taillight (E4/1e2)
• Left license plate lamp (E19/1)
• Right license plate lamp (E19/2)

The trailer recognition control unit actuates the following components of the trailer via the trailer socket (X58) (with code (550) Trailer hitch):

• Taillights
• License plate lights

Additional function requirements for lights on reminder 

• Standing lights ON
• Driver door OPEN
• Circuit 15C OFF

Function sequence for lights on reminder warning 

The logic for requesting the lights on reminder function is stored in the front SAM control unit.

The left front door control unit (N69/1) sends the status of the driver door (open or closed) and the electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) sends the status of circuit 15 via interior CAN to the front SAM control unit.

The front SAM control unit receives this information and from it generates the request for output of the lights on reminder function and transmits this to the instrument cluster via the interior CAN. The instrument cluster then actuates the integrated warning buzzer (A1h1). In the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster, the "Switch off light" request is shown.

The standing lights may be on due to the low beams having been manually switched on, due to the auto on/off headlamps or the daytime running lights, or they can be switched on manually via the exterior lights switch.

If the standing lights have been activated because of the manually activated low beams, auto on/off headlamps or the daytime running lights, and the driver door is opened at circuit 15C ON, the standing lights are switched off.

Parking lights actuation function sequence 

By turning the exterior lights switch to the left parking lights position or the right parking lights position, the parking lights actuation is requested for the corresponding side of vehicle.

The front SAM control unit reads in the status of the exterior lights switch directly and sends the "Parking lights ON" request via interior CAN to the rear SAM control unit and via chassis CAN 2 to the left headlamp control unit and the right headlamp control unit.

On vehicles with code (550) Trailer hitch, the front SAM control unit sends the "Parking lights ON" request via interior CAN to the trailer recognition control unit.

Left parking light: 

The left headlamp control unit actuates the following components in the left front lamp unit:

• On vehicles without code (640) SAE dynamic LED headlamp for right-hand traffic and without code (641) Dynamic LED headlamp for left-hand traffic and without code (642) Dynamic LED headlamp for right-hand traffic:
  • Left parking light and daytime running light
  • Left front side marker lamp (with code (460) Canada version or with code (494) USA version)
• On vehicles with code (640) SAE dynamic LED headlamp for right-hand traffic and without code (641) Dynamic LED headlamp for left-hand traffic and without code (642) Dynamic LED headlamp for right-hand traffic:
  • Left turn signal light, parking light, side marker lamp and daytime running light ()

The rear SAM control unit actuates the following components:

• Left rear lamp unit:
  • Left side marker lamp (with code (460) Canada version or code (494) USA version)
  • Left taillight and brake light
• Inner left rear lamp unit:
  • Inner left taillight (with code (460) Canada version or code (494) USA version)

The trailer recognition control unit (with code (550) Trailer hitch) actuates the left taillight on the trailer via the trailer socket.

Right parking light: 

The right headlamp control unit actuates the following components in the right front lamp unit:

• On vehicles without code (640) SAE dynamic LED headlamp for right-hand traffic and without code (641) Dynamic LED headlamp for left-hand traffic and without code (642) Dynamic LED headlamp for right-hand traffic:
  • Right parking light and daytime running light
  • Right front side marker lamp (with code (460) Canada version or with code (494) USA version)
• On vehicles with code (640) SAE dynamic LED headlamp for right-hand traffic and without code (641) Dynamic LED headlamp for left-hand traffic and without code (642) Dynamic LED headlamp for right-hand traffic:
  • Right turn signal light, parking light, side marker lamp and daytime running light ()

The rear SAM control unit actuates the following components:

• Right rear lamp unit:
  • Right side marker lamp (with code (460) Canada version or code (494) USA version)
  • Right taillight and brake light
• Inner right rear lamp unit:
  • Inner right taillight (with code (460) Canada version or code (494) USA version)

The trailer recognition control unit (with code (550) Trailer hitch) actuates the right taillight on the trailer via the trailer socket.

The standing and parking lights are switched off if the on-board electrical system management determines that the engine start capability is impaired by the on-board electrical system battery (G1) discharging.
