Remove/install retaining lock for crankshaft/ring gear - AR03.30-P-5000CMG

	Install/remove
	Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.	Align vehicle between columns of lifting platform and position four support plates at lifting platform support points specified by vehicle manufacturer.	AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
	Risk of injury caused by moving parts that can pinch, crush or, in extreme cases, even sever extremities	No parts of the body or limbs should be within the operating range of the mechanism when moving components.	AS00.00-Z-0009-01A
	The engine must not be counterheld at the ring gear with the retaining lock to remove the center bolt of the belt pulley/vibration damper or of the driven plate. This can damage the pulse wheel on the driven plate
1	Switch off ignition
2	Lift vehicle on lifting platform.
3	Detach cover (2) of cylinder crankcase		*BA27.40-P-1008-01A
	Checking
4	Check ring gear of driven plate	Check toothing for wear and damage by rotating the engine at the center bolt of the belt pulley/vibration damper in the direction of engine rotation. If necessary: ↓
		Replace driven plate.	AR03.30-P-8001CMG

5	Insert retaining lock (1) into starter opening	Slide retaining lock into starter opening (see arrow) and allow to latch into ring gear. If necessary, rotate engine at the center bolt of the belt pulley/vibration damper in the direction of engine rotation until the retaining lock (1) latches properly into the ring gear.
