Remove/install rear bumper - AR88.20-P-2200EW

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
1 Lift vehicle on vehicle lift    
2 Remove bolts (1, 2)    
3 Remove screws/bolts (3) IMPORTANT MODEL 207
A nut is installed on the left side of the vehicle instead of a bolt (3).
 
4 Remove expansion rivets (4) on fender liner (5) of left and right fender    
5 Detach fender liner (5) on left rear fender until corresponding bolts (6) are accessible    
6 Detach fender liner (5) on right rear fender until corresponding bolts (6) are accessible    
7 Remove screw/bolts (6)    
8.1 Unclip hose (7) from brackets (8, 9) MODEL 207, 212  
8.2 Unclip hose (7) from bracket (9) MODEL 218  
9.1 Remove rear center section paneling (13) MODEL 207, 218

10 Remove covers above nuts (12)    
11 Unscrew nuts (12)    
12 Open service flap (14) and detach insulation below MODEL 212.0/1, 218  
13 Remove right side paneling in cargo area MODEL 212.2

14 Detach insulation below previously removed paneling on right side of cargo area MODEL 212.2  
15 Disconnect electrical connector from rear bumper radar sensor (X1722) MODEL 207, 212, 218

17 Guide electrical wiring harness (16) through body (18) together with grommet (17)    
18 Unclip rear bumper (19) starting at wheel wells and then at rear with aid of helper and remove rear bumper (19) NOTES
Carefully detach rear bumper (19) and fasten. Otherwise the body paint (18) or rear bumper (19) can be damaged.
 
19 Remove sensors for blind spot assist MODEL 207, 212, 218
with CODE 237 (Active Blind Spot Assist)

When replacing rear bumper (19).

IMPORTANT Check whether PARKTRONIC or active parking assist is ready for operation.
The PARKTRONIC automatically performs a self-test and the operational readiness is signaled via the warning indicators.
