Anti-theft alarm (ATA [EDW]) Diagnosis troubleshooting - AD80.50-P-3000CW

MODEL 172, 204, 207, 212, 218, 231 with CODE (551) Anti-theft alarm system (ATA [EDW]) 

  Anti-theft alarm (ATA [EDW]) Diagnosis previous knowledge   AD80.50-P-2000CW 
IMPORTANT After receiving a complaint regarding "false alarms", perform troubleshooting.   AD80.50-P-5000CW 
IMPORTANT Before checking for proper function, call up and print out the alarm source memory. IMPORTANT The alarm source memory overview can be called up and printed out in Xentry Diagnostics under the following path:
  • "Rear SAM control unit"
  • "Actual values"
  • "ATA [EDW] alarm sources"
  • "Overview"

Call up the individual data records for specific details.

IMPORTANT Check for proper function only in regard to the present complaint.

  • Remove transmitter key
  • Close all doors and trunk lid or rear-end door

ATA [EDW] function display flashes continuously  
The alarm should trigger as soon as one wheel is lifted off the ground. Troubleshooting: AD80.50-P-5000CW 
2 
Deactivate towing sensor 
(with code (882) Interior monitoring (with ATA only))
  • Remove transmitter key
  • Momentarily press tow-away protection button
  • Close all doors and trunk lid or rear-end door
  • Lock vehicle with transmitter key
  • Lift vehicle on one side after approx. 3 min.
   
LED in tow-away protection button illuminates for approx. 2 s  
ATA [EDW] function display flashes continuously  
The alarm should not trigger when the vehicle is lifted. Troubleshooting: AD80.50-P-5000CW

Alarm actuation via interior protection 
(with code (882) Interior monitoring (with ATA only))
  • Close side windows, if necessary sliding roof, panoramic roof, soft top or Vario roof
  • Remove transmitter key
  • Open driver, close rotary tumbler on door lock and lean driver door against door frame
  • Close all other doors and trunk lid or rear-end door
  • Lock vehicle with transmitter key
  • Open driver door after approx. 3 minutes and move arm up and down above driver seat.
IMPORTANT When the vehicle is completely closed the interior protection has a higher sensitivity.  
ATA [EDW] function display flashes continuously  
An alarm is triggered.  
IMPORTANT With code (889) Keyless Go, do not open driver on door handle, otherwise the vehicle can be unlocked the ATA [EDW] deactivated. Troubleshooting: AD80.50-P-5000CW

Deactivate interior protection 
(with code (882) Interior monitoring (with ATA only))
  • Close side windows, if necessary sliding roof, panoramic roof, soft top or Vario roof
  • Remove transmitter key
  • Momentarily actuate interior protection button
  • Open driver, close rotary tumbler on door lock and lean driver door against door frame
  • Close all other doors and trunk lid or rear-end door
  • Lock vehicle with transmitter key
  • Open driver door after approx. 3 minutes and move arm up and down above driver seat.
   
LED in interior protection button flashes for approx. 2 s  
ATA [EDW] function display flashes continuously  
The alarm should not be triggered by movement in the passenger compartment.  
IMPORTANT With code (889) Keyless Go, do not open driver on door handle, otherwise the vehicle can be unlocked the ATA [EDW] deactivated. Troubleshooting: AD80.50-P-5000CW

Glass breakage sensors 
(on model 204.2/9, 212.2 with code (882) Interior monitoring (only with ATA [EDW]))
  • Remove door lining on tailgate
  • Remove transmitter key
  • Close door lock rotary tumbler on rear-end door
  • Close all doors
  • Lock vehicle with transmitter key
  • Disconnect connector on glass breakage sensor approx. 1 min. from rear window
  Model 204.2: AR72.20-P-3520CX
Model 204.9: AR72.20-P-3520CY
Model 212.2: AR72.20-P-3520ES
ATA [EDW] function display flashes continuously  
An alarm is triggered. Troubleshooting: AD80.50-P-5000CW

Alarm triggering via driver door 
  • Open driver door window
  • Remove transmitter key
  • Switch off Interior protection (with code (882) Interior monitoring (only with ATA [EDW]))
  • Close all doors and trunk lid or rear-end door
  • Lock vehicle with transmitter key
  • Open driver door with inside door handle after approx. 15 s
IMPORTANT With code (885) Increased theft protection, the driver door can only be opened with the emergency key.

Alarm triggering via passenger door 
  • Open front passenger door side window
  • Remove transmitter key
  • Switch off Interior protection (with code (882) Interior monitoring (only with ATA [EDW]))
  • Close all doors and trunk lid or rear-end door
  • Lock vehicle with transmitter key
  • Open front passenger door with inside door handle after approx. 15 s
IMPORTANT With code (885) Increased theft protection, function check is not possible.

Alarm triggering via left rear door 
(model 204.0/2/9, 212, 218)
  • Open left rear door side window
  • Remove transmitter key
  • Switch off Interior protection (with code (882) Interior monitoring (only with ATA [EDW]))
  • Close all doors and trunk lid or rear-end door
  • Lock vehicle with transmitter key
  • Open left rear door with inside door handle after approx. 15 s
IMPORTANT With code (885) Increased theft protection, function check is not possible.

Alarm triggering via right rear door 
(model 204.0/2/9, 212, 218)
  • Open right rear door side window
  • Remove transmitter key
  • Switch off Interior protection (with code (882) Interior monitoring (only with ATA [EDW]))
  • Close all doors and trunk lid or rear-end door
  • Lock vehicle with transmitter key
  • Open right rear door with inside door handle after approx. 15 s
IMPORTANT With code (885) Increased theft protection, function check is not possible.

Alarm triggering via trunk lid 
(model 172, 204.0/3, 207, 212.0, 218.3, 231)
  • Close all doors and trunk lid
  • Lock vehicle with transmitter key
  • Open trunk lid with emergency key after approx. 15 s.

Alarm triggering via rear-end door 
(model 204.2/9, 212.2)
  • Remove transmitter key
  • Switch off Interior protection (with code (882) Interior monitoring (only with ATA [EDW]))
  • Close doors
  • Enter cargo area and close rear-end door
  • Lock vehicle with transmitter key
  • Open rear-end door via emergency actuation after approx. 15 s

Alarm triggering via engine hood 
  • Open driver door window
  • Remove transmitter key
  • Switch off Interior protection (with code (882) Interior monitoring (only with ATA [EDW]))
  • Close all doors and trunk lid or rear-end door
  • Lock vehicle with transmitter key
  • Open engine hood through open side window after approx. 15 s

Alarm actuation via glove box 
(Model 172)
  • Enter vehicle
  • Close doors
  • Remove transmitter key
  • Switch off Interior protection (with code (882) Interior monitoring (only with ATA [EDW]))
  • Open glove compartment.
  • Actuate switch in glove box by hand and hold
  • Lock vehicle with transmitter key
  • Release switch in glove box after approx. 15 s
   
ATA [EDW] function display flashes continuously

Alarm triggering via center console stowage compartment 
(model 172, 231)
  • Enter vehicle
  • Close doors
  • Remove transmitter key
  • Switch off Interior protection (with code (882) Interior monitoring (only with ATA [EDW]))
  • Open stowage compartment in center console
  • Actuate switch in center console stowage compartment by hand and hold
  • Lock vehicle with transmitter key
  • Release switch in center console stowage compartment after approx. 15 s
   
ATA [EDW] function display flashes continuously

Trigger panic alarm 
(with code (763) Radio remote control with panic switch)
  • Close all doors and trunk lid or rear-end door
  • Lock vehicle with transmitter key
  • Press "Panic button" on transmitter key

Siren self-alarm 
(model 172, 207.4, 218, 231 except USA ONLY , CANADA ONLY ; Model 204, 207.3, 212 up to 31.5.10 or as of 1.6.10 except USA ONLY , CANADA ONLY )
  • Expose access to alarm siren (loosen right front fender liner in area of A-pillar and press to side)
  • Remove transmitter key
  • Close all doors and trunk lid or rear-end door
  • Lock vehicle with transmitter key
  • Disconnect connectors from alarm siren after approx. 15 s
IMPORTANT The alarm is very loud due to the proximity to the alarm siren. Wear ear protection.  
An acoustic alarm is triggered.  
IMPORTANT To terminate the alarm reconnect the plug connector and then unlock the vehicle with the transmitter key. Troubleshooting: AD80.50-P-5000CW
