  • "ATA [EDW] alarm sources"
  • "Overview"

Call up the individual data records for specific details.

IV Check whether there is a TIPS document for the customer complaint, fault code or alarm source. IMPORTANT Follow instructions in TIPS document. Always observe the specified validity. If this does not lead to success or a TIPS document is not present, proceed on the basis of the available information.
Complaint  Cause (loud alarm source)  Notes  Remedy
Inadvertent activation of ATA [EDW] (visual and acoustic alarm)  Contact switch  (engine hood, door, etc.)

  • Associated hood, door or lid does not fit well so that contact switch is not actuated reliably.
Check installation position of affected components, correct if necessary

  • Contact switch defective (e.g. loose contact) - Lines, connectors and contacts defective
Check contact switch, replace if necessary Check lines and connectors, repair if necessary

  • Ground contact faulty
Secure ground contact
  Interior protection
(with code (882) Interior monitoring (with ATA only))
  • Objects in vehicle can lead to reflections and thereby to erroneous alarm On model 172, 207.4, 231 metallic objects should not be present in the center console compartment.

      Remove objects
IMPORTANT Objects, that led to triggering, have been removed from the vehicle by the customer.
  • Insects in vehicle
  • If a stationary heater has been retrofitted (as an accessory), air turbulence may lead to false alarms.

  • Parameter set not updated (on model 204, 207.3, 212, 218)
Update parameter record.:
"IRS interior protection and tow-away protection"/"Adaptation"/"Startup" (code only when an optimized set of parameters is available)

  • Interior protection sensor not fastened properly

    IMPORTANT Installation position:

    Model 204, 207.3, 212, 218:

The interior protection sensor is integrated into the interior protection control unit and tow-away protection, which is clipped directly into the overhead control panel control unit. Check whether overhead control panel is seated correctly
    Model 172, 207.4, 231:
The interior protection sensor is installed in the center console Check whether the interior protection sensor is seated correctly.
    Model 172:
The 2nd interior protection sensor (slave) is installed in the rear center console Check whether 2nd interior protection sensor is seated correctly
    Model 231:
The 2nd interior protection sensor (slave) is installed in the right door Check whether 2nd interior protection sensor is seated correctly
  Tow-away protection
(with code (882) Interior monitoring (with ATA only))
  • Tow-away protection sensor is not fastened correctly

    IMPORTANT Installation location:

    Model 204.0 up to 14.9.09:
The tow-away protection sensor is integrated into the alarm siren. Check whether alarm siren is fastened correctly.
    Model 172, 207.4, 231:
The tow-away protection sensor is integrated into the interior protection sensor, which is installed in the center console Check whether interior protection control unit and tow-way protection are seated correctly
    Model 204.0 as of 15.9.09, model 204.2/3/9, 212, 218:
interior protection sensor is integrated into interior protection sensor control unit and tow-away protection, which is clipped directly into the overhead control panel.
  • Defects (e.g. leakage) can lead to changes in the vehicle level when the vehicle CAN is woken up (with code (489) AIRMATIC (pneumatic suspension with continuously adjustable damping) or code (488) Steel/pneumatic suspension)
Check whether overhead control panel is seated correctly
  Glass breakage loop
  (on model 204.2/9, 212.2)
  • Resistance value for glass breakage sensor too high

Nominal value to ground: R < 50 Ω (measured at connector on interior protection and tow-away protection control unit).

IMPORTANT The resistance can change due to jolts or depending on the temperature.
If the value is greater:

  • Check glass breakage loops in windows individually (nominal value: R 20 Ω)
Replace corresponding window
If the value for the glass breakage loops in the windows is okay:

  • Check lines, connectors and ground connection
Repair lines, connectors and ground connection
