Upper Instrument Panel: Removal
CAUTION:
Some of these service operations affect the SRS airbag system. Read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS airbag system before servicing (RS-1).
- TABLE OF BOLT, SCREW AND NUT
HINT:
All bolts, screws and nuts relevant to installing and removing the instrument panel are shown along with their alphabet codes in the table below.
- DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable to prevent the airbag from working.
- SEPARATE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP RH
- Separate the front door opening trim weatherstrip RH.
- SEPARATE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP LH
- Separate the front door opening trim weatherstrip LH.
- REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH CENTER PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Disengage the 7 clips and 2 claws in the order shown in the illustration, and remove the instrument cluster finish center panel.
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL RETAINER
- Disengage the 6 claws and remove the instrument cluster finish panel retainer.
- REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR ASSEMBLY
- Disengage the claw and separate the glove compartment door stoppers from the glove compartment door.
- Slightly flex the upper part of the glove compartment door to release the 2 stoppers and open the glove compartment door until it is horizontal.
- Pull the glove compartment door out horizontally to disengage the 2 hinges and remove the glove compartment door.NOTE: Pull the glove compartment door out horizontally. Otherwise, the hinge may be damaged, making re-installation impossible.

- REMOVE UPPER INSTRUMENT PANEL
- Slide the slider and disconnect the airbag connector.
- Using a clip remover, disconnect the airbag connector.
- Remove the 2 < C > bolts and 2 < B > screws.
- Disengage the 4 clips and 4 claws by lifting the rear side of the upper instrument panel up.
- While lifting the upper instrument panel, slide it toward the rear of the vehicle. Disengage the 5 claws from the front side of the upper instrument panel and remove the upper instrument panel.
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL CUP HOLDER
- Remove the 3 < A > screws and remove the cup holder.
- REMOVE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL BOX DOOR SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Remove the 2 < B > screws.
- Disengage the 4 claws and 2 clips and remove the instrument panel box door.
- REMOVE NO. 2 HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT
- Remove the 2 < A > screws and remove the heater to register duct
- REMOVE NO. 1 HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT
- Remove the 2 < A > screws and remove the heater to register duct.
- REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSEMBLY
- Disengage the 3 claws and remove the instrument panel register.
HINT:
Use the same procedure for both sides.
- Disengage the 3 claws and remove the instrument panel register.
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL CUSHION
- Remove the instrument panel cushion from the upper instrument panel.
- REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL CUSHION
- Remove the instrument panel cushion from the upper instrument panel.
- REMOVE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL CUSHION
- Remove the instrument panel cushion from the upper instrument panel.
- REMOVE NO. 3 INSTRUMENT PANEL CUSHION
- Remove the instrument panel cushion from the upper instrument panel.
- REMOVE NO. 5 INSTRUMENT PANEL CUSHION
- Remove the instrument panel cushion from the upper instrument panel.
- REMOVE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
