Lower Instrument Panel: Removal

CAUTION: Some of these service operations affect the SRS airbag system. Read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS airbag system before servicing (See PRECAUTION ).
  1. TABLE OF BOLT, SCREW AND NUT 

    HINT:

    All bolts, screws and nuts relevant to installing and removing the instrument panel are shown along with their alphabet codes in the table below.

  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable to prevent the airbag from working.
  3. SEPARATE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP RH  (See REMOVAL  )
  4. SEPARATE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP LH  (See REMOVAL  )
  5. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH  (See REMOVAL )
  6. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH  (See REMOVAL )
  7. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL  (See REMOVAL )
  8. REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  9. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH CENTER PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL  )
  10. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL RETAINER  (See REMOVAL  )
  11. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL  )
  12. REMOVE UPPER INSTRUMENT PANEL  (See REMOVAL  )
  13. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH  (See REMOVAL )
  14. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH  (See REMOVAL )
  15. REMOVE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  16. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  17. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM BOARD RH  (See REMOVAL )
  18. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM BOARD LH  (See REMOVAL )
  19. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Manual Transaxle)  (See REMOVAL )
  20. REMOVE UPPER CONSOLE PANEL  (See REMOVAL )
  21. REMOVE REAR CONSOLE BOX COVER  (See REMOVAL )
  22. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX CARPET  (See REMOVAL )
  23. REMOVE REAR CONSOLE BOX SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  24. REMOVE AIR CONDITIONING PANEL ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  25. DISCONNECT DEFROSTER DAMPER CONTROL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  26. DISCONNECT AIR INLET DAMPER CONTROL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  27. DISCONNECT AIR MIX DAMPER CONTROL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  28. REMOVE FRONT CONSOLE BOX 
    1. Remove the 2 < H > screws.
    2. Disengage the clip and 2 claws and remove the front console box.

  29. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER TRAY 
    1. Disengage the 4 claws and open the instrument panel under tray.

    2. Remove the 2 < A > screws.
    3. Disengage the clip and 6 claws and remove the instrument panel under tray.

  30. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL BOX 
    1. Open the instrument panel box.
    2. Pull the instrument panel box out horizontally with the instrument panel open, disengage the 2 hinges and remove the instrument panel box.

  31. REMOVE NO. 2 RADIO BRACKET 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and remove the radio bracket.

  32. REMOVE NO. 1 RADIO BRACKET 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and remove the radio bracket.

  33. SEPARATE HOOD LOCK CONTROL LEVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disengage the 3 claws and separate the hood lock control lever.

  34. SEPARATE ANTENNA CORD SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the 3 clamps and separate the antenna cord.

  35. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL 
    1. Disengage the 2 claws and disconnect the DLC3 connector.

    3. Remove the 5 < D > or < E > screws, < H > screw, < I > screw, and 2 < F > bolts from the lower instrument panel.

    4. Disconnect the 7 clamps.
    5. Disengage the 4 claws and remove the lower instrument panel.

  36. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR STOPPER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disengage the claw and remove the glove compartment door stopper.

  37. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SEAL 
    1. Disengage the 4 claws and remove the instrument cluster finish panel seal.

  38. REMOVE OUTER MIRROR SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disengage the 2 claws and remove the outer mirror switch.

  39. REMOVE LIGHT CONTROL RHEOSTAT 
    1. Disengage the 2 claws and remove the light control rheostat.

  40. REMOVE STEREO JACK ADAPTER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disengage the 2 claws and remove the stereo jack adapter (AUX).

    2. Disengage the 2 claws and remove the stereo jack adapter (i Pod).

  41. REMOVE CUSHION 
    1. Remove the cushion from the lower instrument panel.
