Inspection Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC FOR ABS 
    1. Check if the other DTCs are recorded (see DTC CHECK/CLEAR  ).

    Result: 

    RESULT REFERENCE

    Result Proceed to
    DTC is output A
    DTC is not output B
    1. B : Go to step   2 
    2. A : REPAIR CIRCUIT INDICATED BY OUTPUT CODE 
  2. INSPECT SKID CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR SECURELY CONNECTED (See  ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION  ) 
    1. NO : CONNECT CONNECTOR TO ECU 
    2. YES : GO TO NEXT STEP. 
  3. INSPECT BATTERY 
    1. Check the battery voltage.

      OK : Voltage: 11 to 14 V 

    1. NG : INSPECT CHARGING SYSTEM 
    2. OK : GO TO NEXT STEP. 
  4. INSPECT SKID CONTROL ECU TERMINAL VOLTAGE (IG1 TERMINAL) 

    When using hand-held tester: 

    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Select the DATA LIST mode on the hand-held tester.
    4. Check the voltage output from the ECU displayed on the hand-held tester.
    MEASUREMENT ITEM/RANGE CONDITION

    IG VOLTAGE ECU power supply voltage/NORMAL or TOO LOW NORMAL: 9.5 V or over
    TOO LOW: Below 9.5 V
    -

    OK : NORMAL is displayed. 

    When not using hand-held tester: 

    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the table below.

    Standard: 

    TESTER CONNECTION AND SPECIFIED CONDITION

    Tester Connection Specified Condition
    S1-46 (IG1) - Body ground 10 to 14 V

    1. NG : REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (IG1 CIRCUIT) 
    2. OK : GO TO NEXT STEP. 
  5. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (SKID CONTROL ECU - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the table below.

    Standard: 

    TESTER CONNECTION AND SPECIFIED CONDITION

    Tester Connection Specified Condition
    S1-1, 32 (GND) - Body ground Below 1 Ω

    1. NG : REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (GND CIRCUIT) 
    2. OK : GO TO NEXT STEP. 
  6. INSPECT ABS WARNING LAMP 

    When using hand-held tester: 

    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3 and start the engine.
    2. Select "ABS WARN LIGHT" in the ACTIVE TEST and operate the ABS warning lamp on the hand-held tester.
    3. Check that "ON" and "OFF" of the ABS warning lamp can be shown on the combination meter by the hand-held tester.
    VEHICLE CONDITION / TEST DETAILS REFERENCE

    When not using hand-held tester: 

    1. Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the connector from the skid control ECU.
    2. Ground the terminal WA of the skid control ECU.
    3. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    4. Check the ABS warning lamp turns off.

      OK : ABS warning lamp turns off.

    1. NG : CHECK AND REPAIR ABS WARNING LAMP CIRCUIT 
    2. OK : REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
    NOTE: When replacing the brake actuator assy, perform the zero point calibration (see CALIBRATION  ).
