Brake Actuator ASSY: Replacement

  1. DRAIN BRAKE FLUID 
    NOTE: Wash off the brake fluid immediately if it comes in contact with any painted surface.
  2. REMOVE BATTERY 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent air bag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
  3. REMOVE BRAKE ACTUATOR WITH BRACKET 
    1. Release the latch of the actuator connector to disconnect the connector.
    2. Using SST, disconnect the 6 brake lines from the actuator.

    3. Use tags or marks to the reconnection points.

    4. Remove the 3 bolts and actuator.

  4. REMOVE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSY 
    1. Remove the 2 nuts and actuator from the actuator bracket.
  5. INSTALL BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSY 
    1. Install the actuator to the actuator bracket with the 2 nuts.

      Torque: 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf) 

  6. INSTALL BRAKE ACTUATOR WITH BRACKET 
    1. Install the actuator with the 3 bolts.

      Torque: 19 N.m (194 kgf.cm, 14 ft.lbf)

    2. Using SST, connect the 6 brake lines to the correct position of the actuator, as shown in Fig 5 .

      SST 09023-00101

      Torque: 

      • 15 N.m (155 kgf.cm, 11 ft.lbf) without SST 
      • 14 N.m (143 kgf.cm, 10 ft.lbf) with SST 

      HINT:

      Use a torque wrench with a fulcrum length of 30 cm (11.81 in.).

    3. Connect the actuator connector.
  7. INSTALL BATTERY 
  8. PERFORM INITIALIZATION (See  INITIALIZATION  ) 
    NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
  9. FILL RESERVOIR WITH BRAKE FLUID (See  BRAKE FLUID   ) 
  10. BLEED AIR FROM MASTER CYLINDER (See  BRAKE FLUID   ) 
  11. BLEED AIR FROM BRAKE LINE (See  BRAKE FLUID   ) 
  12. CHECK FLUID LEVEL IN RESERVOIR (See  BRAKE FLUID   ) 
  13. CHECK BRAKE FLUID LEAKAGE 
  14. CHECK BRAKE ACTUATOR WITH HAND-HELD TESTER (See  DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM  )
