Test 8: Side Air Bag Firing Circuit

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS  . Disconnect side air bag connector. Connect Special Tool (9516) and Test Cable (9516/2) to harness side of connector. Clear control unit memory. See CLEARING TROUBLE CODES  under DIAGNOSTICS. Turn ignition off, then back on. Check for trouble codes. See RETRIEVING TROUBLE CODES  under DIAGNOSTICS.
  2. If trouble code does not appear again, replace side air bag unit. If trouble code appears again, check wiring harness for pinches and chafing damage. Repair as required. If wiring harness is okay, replace control unit.
