Air Bag Safety Precautions

Observe the following precautions when servicing air bag system:
- Before servicing any air bag, steering column component or door trim panel, disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
- Because of critical operating requirements of system, DO NOT repair any air bag component. Correction is made by replacement only.
- DO NOT allow grease, oil, cleaning solutions, or similar products to come in contact with air bag units.
- DO NOT subject air bag units to temperatures greater than 195°F (90°C ).
- While drying after paint work, DO NOT subject vehicle to temperatures greater than 176°F (80°C ) for more than 2 hours.
- Replace air bag units, side air bag sensors and air bag control units that have fallen from a height of 1.5 feet (0.46 m) or more.
- DO NOT install additional trim, labels, or stickers on steering wheel, or in area of passenger-side or side air bags.
- DO NOT repair or modify air bag system wiring.
- Disable air bag system before electric-welding vehicle.
- DO NOT route wires from other electrical equipment in the vicinity of air bag wire harness.
- Wash hands thoroughly after handling deployed air bags.
