Test 2: Passenger-Side Firing Circuit

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS  . Disconnect passenger-side air bag unit connector, located under right side of instrument panel. Connect Special Tool (9516) and Test Cable (9566) to harness side of passenger-side air bag unit connector. See Fig 1 .
  2. Clear control unit memory. See CLEARING TROUBLE CODES  under DIAGNOSTICS. Turn ignition off, then back on. Check for trouble codes. See RETRIEVING TROUBLE CODES  under DIAGNOSTICS. If fault is not present, replace passenger-side air bag unit. See PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG UNIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If fault is still present, go to next step.
  3. Check wiring harness for pinching, chafing or other damage. Repair wiring as necessary. If wiring is okay, replace control unit. See CONTROL UNIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
