Valve Timing Control Cover (bank 1): Removal

  1. Disconnect battery negative terminal. Refer to Exploded View .
  2. Remove core support cover. Refer to Exploded View .
  3. Remove front air duct. Refer to Removal and Installation .
  4. Remove cowl top. Refer to Removal and Installation .
  5. Remove strut tower brace.
  6. Remove reservoir tank. Refer to Exploded View .
  7. Remove power steering oil pump (if necessary). Refer to Removal and Installation .
  8. Support engine (1) and transaxle (2) using suitable jack (A).

    CAUTION:
    • Position a suitable jack under the engine and transaxle assembly as shown, above.
    • Do not damage the front exhaust tube or transaxle oil pan with the jack.
  9. Remove upper torque rod, engine mounting insulator (RH), and engine mounting bracket (RH). Refer to Exploded View  (FWD) or Exploded View (AWD).
  10. Disconnect the harness connectors from electric intake valve timing control actuator (bank 1).
  11. Disconnect the harness connector from exhaust valve timing control solenoid valve (bank 1).
  12. Remove electric intake valve timing control actuator (bank 1) and exhaust valve timing control solenoid valve (bank 1) from valve timing control cover (bank 1).
    CAUTION: Do not reuse O-rings.
  13. Remove the intake valve timing control cover [bank 1 (A)].
    • Loosen the intake valve timing control cover [bank 1 (A)] bolts in reverse of the sequence shown, below.
