Diagnosis Procedure
- CHECK FOR CURRENT DTC
- Turn ignition switch ON.
- Connect CONSULT and check for "ENGINE" diagnostic trouble codes.
- Check If any of the following DTCs are "current" or "past":
- P0237-00
- P0238-00
- P1191-00
- P1192-00
- P1193-00
- P22CB-00
- P22CC-00
Is applicable DTC current or past?
YES
Perform diagnosis of applicable DTC. Refer to DTC Index .
NO
GO TO 2 .
- CHECK FOR TURBOCHARGER RELATED DTC
- Using CONSULT, check for other "ENGINE" diagnostic trouble codes.
- Look for "current" DTCs related to turbocharger.
Any applicable current DTC?
YES
Perform diagnosis of applicable DTC. Refer to DTC Index .
NO
GO TO 3 .
- INSPECT VACUUM HOSES
Inspect for cracks, collapsed hose or other damage to the vacuum hoses at the following locations:
- Vacuum pump
- Compressor bypass valve solenoid
- Compressor bypass valve actuator
Is the inspection result normal?
YES
GO TO 4 .
NO
Repair or replace error-detected parts.
- VERIFY VACUUM PUMP OUTPUT
- Start the engine.
- Connect a hand pump or a vacuum gauge to the vacuum pump inlet.
- Verify the vacuum pump output is sufficient:
Minimum required vacuum
-40 kPa (-0.408 kg/cm 2 , -5.8 psi)
Is the vacuum supply sufficient?
YES
GO TO 5 .
NO
- Replace the vacuum pump. Refer to Removal and Installation .
- GO TO 7 .
- VERIFY THE COMPRESSOR BYPASS VALVE ACTUATOR
- Stop the engine.
- Turn ignition switch ON.
- Using CONSULT, monitor the compressor bypass valve actuator.
- Use a hand pump to provide vacuum to the compressor bypass valve actuator.
- Verify that the compressor bypass valve moves to both linkage stops.
Compressor bypass valve linkage moves from stop to stop?
YES
GO TO 6 .
NO
- Remove any obstruction to the linkage or Replace the compressor Bypass Valve Actuator. Refer to Removal and Installation .
- GO TO 7 .
- VERIFY LOW PRESSURE TURBOCHARGER BOOST PRESSURE SENSOR ACCURACY
- Verify the low-pressure turbocharger boost speed sensor.
- Using CONSULT, monitor and log the following:
- Engine speed.
- Low-pressure turbocharger boost pressure.
- Charge-air cooler outlet pressure.
- Compressor bypass valve.
- Start the engine.
- Override compressor bypass valve to OPEN.
- Use the accelerator pedal to raise the engine speed to 2, 000 RPM and hold for 20 seconds.
- Return the engine speed to idle.
- Repeat above steps with compressor bypass valve override set to CLOSED.
- Compare low-pressure turbocharger boost pressure values at 2, 000 RPM with valve OPEN vs. CLOSED.
From open to closed valve, turbocharger boost pressure increased by 5 kPa (0.73 psi) or more at 2, 000 RPM?
YES
GO TO 7 .
NO
- Replace the low-pressure turbocharger boost pressure sensor. Refer to Removal and Installation .
- GO TO 7 .
- ERASE CURRENT DTC
- Stop the engine.
- Connect all components.
- Turn ignition switch ON
- Using CONSULT, erase "ENGINE" diagnostic trouble codes
- Operate the engine within the "Conditions for setting the DTC"
- Using CONSULT, check for "ENGINE" diagnostic trouble codes
Is P22CD-00 DTC current?
YES
Return to Diagnosis Procedure. Refer to DTC Description .
NO
Repair complete.
