Quarter Pillar Trim

NOTE:
- Put on gloves to protect your hands.
- Take care not to bend or scratch the trim and panels.
- Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing components.
- Remove these items:
- Rear door inner seal, as needed (see step 3 on )
- Tailgate weatherstrip, as needed (see TAILGATE WEATHERSTRIP REPLACEMENT )
- Cargo area side trim panel, as needed (see TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - CARGO AREA )
- Remove the upper anchor cover (A) by releasing the hooks (B), then remove the rear seat belt upper anchor bolt (C).
- Remove the quarter pillar trim (A).
- Pull the bottom of the trim back by hand to detach the clips (B, C).
- Pull the trim down to release the upper hook (D) from the body hole (E).
- Install the trim in the reverse order of removal, and note the following items:

- If the clips (A) are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones.
- If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the quarter pillar trim with a new one (see COMPONENT REPLACEMENT/INSPECTION AFTER DEPLOYMENT ).
- If the side curtain airbag has not deployed, inspect the quarter pillar trim for damage or abnormalities, which can cause the side curtain airbags to deploy improperly, possibly causing injury. Replace the trim if you find any of these problems:
- Any cracks, deformation, or stress-whitened areas in the quarter pillar trim (B) or upper hook (C)
- Any cracks or stress-whitened areas in the clips seating surfaces (D)
- Replace any damaged parts with new ones.
- Make sure the top of the trim overlaps with the headliner correctly (see CHECKING AND ADJUSTING THE HEADLINER/PILLAR TRIM OVERLAP ).
- Make sure the trim hook is installed into the body holes.
- Push the clip and hooks into place securely.
- Before installing the seat belt anchor bolt, make sure there are no twists or kinks in the seat belt.
