DTC 71-1x: ("X" Can Be 0 Thru 9 Or A Thru F) Open In the Driver's Seat Position Sensor
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, find out if the vehicle was in a collision. If so, verify that all the required components were replaced with new components, of the correct part number, and that they were properly installed. (See COMPONENT REPLACEMENT/INSPECTION AFTER DEPLOYMENT ).
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review PRECAUTIONS AND PROCEDURES , General Troubleshooting Information (see DTC (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES) ) and BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION AND RECONNECTION .
- Before replacing the SRS unit, check the SRS unit software version with the HDS. If the software version is not the latest, update the SRS unit software (see SRS UNIT UPDATE ), and retest.
- Information marked with an asterisk (*1) applies to '09-11 models.
- Information marked with an asterisk (*2) applies to '12 model.
- Raise the driver's seat all the way up.
- Clear the DTCs with the HDS (see CLEAR THE DTC MEMORY ).
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
- Check for the DTCs with the HDS (see READING THE DTC
).
Is DTC 71-1x indicated?
YES - Go to step 5.
NO - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to TROUBLESHOOTING INTERMITTENT FAILURES . If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Check for these connector connections:
- Driver's seat position sensor 2P connector on the driver's seat position sensor harness, (see DRIVER'S SEAT POSITION SENSOR REPLACEMENT ). ).
- G603 (see FLOOR WIRE HARNESS (RIGHT BRANCH)
).
Are the connection OK?
YES - Go to step 7
NO - Repair the poor connections, then clear the DTC, and retest. If DTC 71-1x is still present, go to step 7.
- Remove the seat recline cover (see FRONT SEAT RECLINE COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
- Disconnect the driver's seat position sensor 2P connector (A) on the driver's seat position sensor harness.
- Install a jumper wire between the driver's seat position sensor 2P connector on the driver's seat position sensor harness terminals No. 1 and No. 2.
- Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.
- Disconnect SRS unit connector B (39P) from the SRS unit (see step 10 under Disconnecting System Connectors ).
- Measure the resistance between body ground and SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 23*1 (No. 28*2).
Asterisk (*1) applies to '09-11 models and, (*2) applies to '12 model.

Is there less than 1.0Ω ?
YES - Faulty driver's seat position sensor or SRS unit; replace the driver's seat position sensor (see DRIVER'S SEAT POSITION SENSOR REPLACEMENT ), then clear the DTC. If the problem is still present, replace the SRS unit (see SRS UNIT REPLACEMENT ).
NO - Open in the floor wire harness or the driver's seat position sensor harness; replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
