Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Infiniti QX4, 2001 Nissan Pathfinder, and 2001 Infiniti QX4. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect transmission terminal cord assembly 8-pin connector located on right side of transmission. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS . Measure resistance between transmission terminal cord assembly 8-pin connector terminals No. 8 and 9 when transmission fluid is cold 68°F (20°C). Resistance should be about 2500 ohms. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, see TRANSMISSION FLUID TEMPERATURE SENSOR  under COMPONENT TESTS.
  2. Start engine. Measure voltage (backprobe) between TCM harness connector terminal No. 47 and ground while warming up transmission. Voltage should measure about 1.5 volts when ATF is cold (68°F (20°C) and .5 volt when hot (176°F (80°C). If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, perform TCM input/output signal inspection. See PIN VOLTAGE TESTS . Repair as necessary.
  3. Road test and perform DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE . If DTC is still present, recheck applicable TCM input/output signals. See PIN VOLTAGE TESTS . If any voltage measured is not as specified, check connector pin terminals for damage or loose connection to harness connector. Repair as necessary.
