Diagnostic Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Sentra, 2002 Infiniti G20, 2001 Nissan Sentra, and 2001 Infiniti G20. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Check for ECM related TP sensor DTC P0120. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If no ECM related DTC is present, go to next step.
- Connect vacuum pump to throttle opener and apply 7.48 in. Hg. vacuum. Turn ignition on. Check voltage between TCM terminals No. 41 and 42 while slowly depressing throttle. Voltage should be about 0.5 volt at fully-closed throttle, and 4 volts at fully-open throttle. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, check for open in TP sensor circuit between ECM and TCM.
- Warm engine to normal operating temperature. Turn ignition off. Connect vacuum pump to throttle opener and apply 7.48 in. Hg. vacuum. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between TCM terminals No. 16 and 17 while slowly depressing and releasing accelerator pedal. Voltage at terminal No. 16 should be battery voltage when fully closed, and one volt or less when fully open. Voltage at terminal No. 17 should be one volt or less when fully closed, and battery voltage when fully open. If voltage is not as specified, check TP sensor. See THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR under COMPONENT TESTS. Repair as necessary. If TP sensor is okay, inspect wire harness and connectors. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to next step.
- Road test and perform DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE . If DTC is still present, recheck applicable TCM input/output signals. See PIN VOLTAGE TESTS . If any voltage measured is not as specified, check TCM connector terminals for damage or loose connection to harness connector. Repair as necessary.
