Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Sentra, 2002 Infiniti G20, 2001 Nissan Sentra, and 2001 Infiniti G20. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. If during road test, transaxle did not shift from 3rd to 4th gear at specified speed, go to next step. If shift from 3rd to 4th gear is at specified speed and lock-up did not occur at specified speed, go to step  4.
  2. Perform line pressure test. See HYDRAULIC PRESSURE TESTS  under PERFORMANCE TESTS. If line pressure is not within specification, go to step  5. If line pressure is okay, check solenoid valves. Remove valve body assembly. See appropriate SERVICING article. Repair or replace as needed.
  3. Disassemble valve body assembly. See VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY under COMPONENT DISASSEMBLY & REASSEMBLY in appropriate OVERHAUL article. Ensure valves, sleeve and plug slide along valve bore under their own weight, and are free of burrs, dents and scratches. Ensure valve springs are free from damage, deformation and fatigue. Ensure hydraulic lines are clear. Repair valve body assembly as necessary and recheck.
  4. Check TCC solenoid valve. Remove valve body assembly. See appropriate SERVICING article. Check TCC solenoid valve assembly. See TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID VALVE  under COMPONENT TESTS. Replace/repair as needed. Check TCC control valve and TCC relief valve for sticking. Repair as necessary. Road test vehicle, and ensure lock-up occurs at specific speed. See appropriate LOCK-UP SPEED SPECIFICATIONS table under ROAD TEST under PERFORMANCE TESTS. If line pressure solenoid is okay, see DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE .
  5. Remove valve body assembly. See appropriate SERVICING article. Check line pressure solenoid. See LINE PRESSURE SOLENOID VALVE  under COMPONENT TESTS. Repair or replace solenoid valve assembly as necessary. If okay, disassemble valve body assembly. See VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY under COMPONENT DISASSEMBLY & REASSEMBLY in appropriate OVERHAUL article. Check pressure regulator, pilot and pressure modifier valves for sticking. Repair as necessary. After repairs, see DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE .
