INSPECTION PROCEDURE 14: Sometimes the rain sensitive AUTO wiper function works even though there is no rainfall < Vehicles with LDW camera (rain sensor) >: Diagnosis

  1. STEP 1. LDW camera (rain sensor) mounting surface check 

    Visually check the presence of scratches or air bubbles (diameter of 5 mm or more) on the windshield to which the lighting control sensor is installed.

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

  2. STEP 2. LDW camera (rain sensor) mounting surface check 

    Check that the LDW camera (rain sensor) is installed to the windshield glass correctly.

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

  3. STEP 3. Windshield wiper operation check 

    Check that the windshield wipers work normally.

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

  4. STEP 4. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III), read the diagnostic trouble code. 
    CAUTION: To prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-III), always turn the ignition switch to the OFF position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-III).
    1. Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-III). Refer to HOW TO CONNECT THE SCAN TOOL (M.U.T.-III) ."
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Check if an ETACS-related diagnosis trouble code is stored.
    4. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.

    Q: Is the DTC stored? 

  5. STEP 5. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III), read the diagnostic trouble code. 
    CAUTION: To prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-III), always turn the ignition switch to the OFF position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-III).
    1. Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-III). Refer to HOW TO CONNECT THE SCAN TOOL (M.U.T.-III) ."
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Check if an LDW-ECU (rain sensor)-related diagnosis trouble code is stored.
    4. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.

    Q: Is the DTC stored? 

  6. STEP 6. Check the trouble symptom. 

    After the LDW camera (rain sensor) has been initialized, check the LDW camera (rain sensor).

    1. Windshield glass surface should be dry.
    2. Pour water to the windshield glass surface where the LDW camera (rain sensor) is installed.

    Q: Does the windshield wiper operate? 

    Operate:  Intermittent malfunction (Refer to HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTION ).

    Does not operate:  Troubleshoot the rain-sensitive wiper function (Refer to INSPECTION PROCEDURE 13  ).
