Code No. C1616: Cranking Signal Stuck: Diagnosis

  1. STEP 1. Scan tool (M.U.T.-III) CAN bus diagnostics. 

    Use scan tool (M.U.T.-III) to perform the CAN bus diagnosis.

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to  Step 3.
    2. NO:  Repair the CAN bus lines (Refer to DIAGNOSIS ). After repairing the CAN bus line, go to Step 2.
  2. STEP 2. Check whether the DTC is stored again. 

    Q: Is DTC No. C1616 stored? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 3.
    2. NO:  This diagnosis is complete.
  3. STEP 3. Scan tool (M.U.T.-III) other system DTC. 

    Q: Is the DTC stored? 

    1. YES:  Perform the relevant troubleshooting.
    2. NO:  Go to Step 4.
  4. STEP 4. Scan tool (M.U.T.-III) data list. 

    Check the following data list (Refer to DATA LIST REFERENCE TABLE  ).

    • Item No.30: Ignition SW (CAN input)

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to  Step 8.
    2. NO:  Go to Step 5.
  5. STEP 5. Ignition switch check 
    1. Disconnect ignition switch connector, and check the continuity between the power supply and start signal at the ignition switch side.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.

      OK: No continuity 

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 6.
    2. NO:  Replace the ignition switch. (Refer to IGNITION SWITCH ). Then go to  Step 9.
  6. STEP 6. Check of short circuit in start signal line between ignition switch connector and ETACS-ECU connector. 

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 7.
    2. NO:  Repair the defective connector or the wiring harness. Then go to  Step 9.
  7. STEP 7. Scan tool (M.U.T.-III) data list. 

    Check the data list of the ETACS (Refer to DATA LIST REFERENCE TABLE ).

    • Item No.287: Starter switch

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 8.
    2. NO:  Replace the ETACS-ECU. Then go to Step 8.
  8. STEP 8. Check whether the DTC is stored again. 

    Q: Is DTC No. C1616 stored? 

    1. YES:  Replace the AWD-ECU (Refer to AWD-ECU  ). Then go to Step 9.
    2. NO:  Intermittent malfunction (Refer to HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTION ).
  9. STEP 9. Check whether the DTC is stored again. 

    Q: Is DTC No. C1616 stored? 

    1. YES:  Return to  Step 1.
    2. NO:  This diagnosis is complete.
