Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. STEP 1. Scan tool (M.U.T.-III) data list. 

    Check the following data list. (Refer to INSPECTION PROCEDURE 6: WHEN THE ECO MODE SWITCH IS TURNED ON, THE DRIVE MODE IS NOT SWITCHED INTO 4WD ECO MODE ).

    • Item 1: AWC control mode

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to  Step 4.
    2. NO:  Go to Step 2.
  2. STEP 2. Follow combination meter trouble symptom procedure 9 "The combination meter light does not illuminate normally or the multi-information display is not displayed normally." 

    Refer to Inspection Procedure 9: The Combination Meter Light Does Not Illuminate Normally Or The Multi-Information Display Is Not Displayed Normally .

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to  Step 4.
    2. NO:  Repair it. Then go to Step 3.
  3. STEP 3. Retest the system. 

    Q: Does the malfunction occur again? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 4.
    2. NO:  This diagnosis is complete.
  4. STEP 4. Resistance measurement between the drive mode selector connector terminals 
    1. Remove the drive mode selector (Refer to DRIVE MODE SELECTOR ).
    2. Measure the resistance between the terminals (Refer to DRIVE MODE SELECTOR INSPECTION ).

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 5.
    2. NO:  Replace the drive mode selector (Refer to DRIVE MODE SELECTOR ). Then go to  Step 7.
  5. STEP 5. Wiring harness check 
    1. Check the wiring harness between the AWC-ECU connector (terminal SW-1) and the drive mode selector connector.
    2. Check the connector(s) or terminal(s) or wiring harness above for damage or other problem.

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 6.
    2. NO:  Repair the connector(s) or terminal(s) or wiring harness. Then go to  Step 7.
  6. STEP 6. Resistance measurement at the drive mode selector connector 
    1. Disconnect the drive mode selector connector.
    2. Measure the resistance between the drive mode selector wiring harness side connector and the body ground.

      OK: Continuity exists (2 Ω or less) 

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 7.
    2. NO:  Repair the connector(s) or terminal(s) or wiring harness. Then go to Step 7.
  7. STEP 7. Retest the system. 

    Q: Does the malfunction occur again? 

    1. YES:  Replace AWC-ECU (Refer to AWC-ECU < Vehicles with S-AWC >  ).
    2. NO:  This diagnosis is complete.
