Diagnostic Procedure

  1. STEP 1. Scan tool (M.U.T.-III) CAN bus diagnostics. 

    Use scan tool (M.U.T.-III) to perform the CAN bus diagnosis.

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to  Step 3.
    2. NO:  Repair the CAN bus lines (Refer to CAN BUS DIAGNOSTICS TABLE ). After repairing the CAN bus line, go to Step 2.
  2. STEP 2. Check whether the DTC is stored again. 

    Q: Is DTC No. C1614 stored? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 3.
    2. NO:  This diagnosis is complete.
  3. STEP 3. Scan tool (M.U.T.-III) data list. 

    Check the following data list (Refer to DATA LIST REFERENCE TABLE  ).

    • Item No.29: Parking brake SW (CAN input)

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to  Step 7.
    2. NO:  Go to Step 4.
  4. STEP 4. Check the parking brake switch. 

    Check the parking brake switch (Refer to ON-VEHICLE SERVICE ).

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 5.
    2. NO:  Replace the parking brake switch. (Refer to PARKING BRAKE LEVER ). Then go to  Step 7.
  5. STEP 5. Measure the resistance at the parking brake switch connector. 
    1. Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
    2. Resistance between parking brake switch connector terminal No.1 and body ground

      OK: No continuity 

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to  Step 7.
    2. NO:  Go to Step 6.
  6. STEP 6. Check the wiring harness between combination meter connector BRK terminal and parking brake switch connector terminal No.1. 

    Check the power supply line for short circuit.

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Replace the combination meter (Refer to COMBINATION METER ). Then go to Step 7.
    2. NO:  Repair the defective connector or the wiring harness. Then go to Step 7.
  7. STEP 7. Check whether the DTC is stored again. 

    Q: Is DTC No. C1614 stored? 

    1. YES:  Replace the AWC-ECU. (Refer to AWC-ECU < Vehicles with S-AWC >  ). Then go to Step 8.
    2. NO:  Intermittent malfunction. (Refer to HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTION ).
  8. STEP 8. Check whether the DTC is stored again. 

    Q: Is DTC No. C1614 stored? 

    1. YES:  Return to  Step 1.
    2. NO:  This diagnosis is complete.
