Replace radial shaft seal for output on transfer box (Cooper Clubman ALL4 models)

Special tools required:

33 5 070
33 5 060
23 0 490
2 407 561

IMPORTANT: After completion of work, check transmission OIL LEVEL and top up if necessary.

Failure to comply with this requirement will result in serious damage to the transfer box!

Preliminary work needed:

Remove TRANSFER BOX .

Removal:

Remove retaining clip (1) and sunk nut (2) with diaphragm seal.

Mark position of flange nut (1) to bevel drive pinion (2).

Release flange nut counterclockwise with special tools 33 5 050 and 33 5 070 by gripping the bevel drive pinion with special tools 33 5 060 and 33 5 070.

Drive a hole into radial shaft seal using a center punch.

IMPORTANT: Do not use a drill as shavings may result in transmission malfunction.

Thread special tool 23 0 490 into radial shaft seal (1).

Drive out radial shaft seal (1) with impact weight (2).

Installation:

Apply oil to sealing lip of new radial shaft seal.

Drive shaft seal firmly home with special tool 2 407 561.

IMPORTANT: In order to avoid damaging the rear axle final drive, do not under any circumstances tighten down the flange nut (1) beyond the marker point of the bevel drive pinion (2).

Place insert nut (2) with diaphragm seal in flange nut.

Introduce retaining clip (1).

Required follow-up work:

Install TRANSFER BOX .
