Removing and installing/replacing hydraulic control unit (8-speed, AISIN GA8F22AW) (Cooper Clubman base AWD, Cooper Clubman S and JCW)
Note the amount of released automatic transmission fluid.
Otherwise the automatic transmission may incur extensive damage!
Do not drain oil before the transmission has cooled down.
Preliminary work needed:
- Disconnect NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE .
- Drain off TRANSMISSION OIL .
- Remove LEFT CHARGE AIR DUCT .
- Remove FAN COWL .
- Remove TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER .
- Remove CROSS CONNECTION under charge air cooler.
Removal:
Release screws and remove cover.
Unscrew the screws (1).
Remove locking plates (2) with oil temperature sensors (3).
Disconnect connectors of solenoid valves.
Numbers: 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 = 21 mm.
Numbers: 2, 5 = 31 mm.
Number 1 = 51 mm.
Evenly release screws in specified sequence.
Disconnect lever (1) from gearshift shaft.
When removing selector unit, slide in gear selector valve (2) and hold down.
Remove selector unit.
Installation:
Join shift unit to transmission.
Pull gear selector valve (2) slightly out of shift unit.
Insert lever (1) into gearshift shaft.
Numbers: 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 = 21 mm.
Numbers: 4, 7 = 31 mm.
Number 8 = 51 mm.
Tightening torque: 24 30 2AZ .
Install oil temperature sensors (3) with locking plates (2) and screw.
Tightening torque: 24 30 3AZ .
Connect and lock connectors of solenoid valves.
Parts: Replace screws and cover.
Clean sealing surface of transmission.
Completely remove sealing compound.
Apply new sealing compound.
Install cover and screw.
Tightening torque: 24 30 1AZ .
Required follow-up work:
- Install TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER .
- Install FAN COWL .
- Install CROSS CONNECTION under charge air cooler.
- Install left CHARGE AIR DUCT .
- Add TRANSMISSION FLUID .
- Connect BATTERY GROUND LEAD .
