Replacing compressor for air conditioning (Cooper S)
Special tools required:
- 00 9 030
- 32 1 270
Refrigerant circuit is under high pressure!
Avoid contact with refrigerant and refrigerant oil.
Read and comply with safety instructions:
Restart engine only when air conditioning has been correctly filled.
Read and comply with notes on compressor replacement! Refer to:NOTES ON CHANGING THE AIR-CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR, DETERMINATION OF THE COOLANT OIL LEVEL (COOLANT OIL LEVEL OF NEW AIR-CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR NOT KNOWN) or NOTES ON REPLACING AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR, DETERMINING THE AMOUNT OF REFRIGERANT OIL (AMOUNT OF REFRIGERANT OIL FOR NEW AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR NOT KNOWN)
Follow notes for opening and replacing parts in REFRIGERANT CIRCUIT .
If Air conditioning is opened for more than 24 h:
Replace DESICCANT INSERT for A/C system.
Preliminary work needed:
- Drain off AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM
- Disconnect NEGATIVE BATTERY LEAD
- Drain COOLANT
- Remove FAN COWL WITH ELECTRIC FAN
- Remove front right WHEEL ARCH COVER
- Remove front UNDERBODY PROTECTION
- Release DRIVE BELT for alternator
Version with brake cooling duct:
- Remove right BRAKE COOLING DUCT
Removal:
Unlock and disconnect the connector (1).
Unscrew the screws (2).
Remove refrigerant lines (3).
Unscrew the screws (1).
Feed out compressor (2).
Replacement:
- Adjust coolant oil level in new compressor. Refer to: NOTES ON CHANGING THE AIR-CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR, DETERMINATION OF THE COOLANT OIL LEVEL (COOLANT OIL LEVEL OF NEW AIR-CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR NOT KNOWN) , NOTES ON REPLACING AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR, DETERMINING THE AMOUNT OF REFRIGERANT OIL (AMOUNT OF REFRIGERANT OIL FOR NEW AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR NOT KNOWN)
Danger of customer complaints due to reduced cooling power of the Air conditioning!
Before the installation of the new compressor, it is absolutely necessary to adjust the coolant oil level in the new compressor!
Be sure to read and comply with safety instructions. Installation:
Position compressor (2) correctly.
Tighten down screws (1).
Tightening torque 64 52 3AZ .
Position refrigerant lines (3) correctly.
Tighten down screws (2).
Tightening torque 64 52 4AZ .
Attach and lock connector (1).
Use special tool 00 9 030 to install sealing rings without damaging them.
Required reworking:
- Evacuate and fill AIR CONDITIONING
- Connect BATTERY GROUND LEAD
- Add COOLANT
- Vent and fill COOLING SYSTEM
- Install FAN COWL WITH ELECTRIC FAN
- Install front right WHEEL ARCH COVER
- Install front UNDERBODY PROTECTION
- Tension DRIVE BELT for alternator
Version with brake cooling duct:
- Install right BRAKE COOLING DUCT
