51 45 030 Removing and installing instrument panel trim

When working on trim panel components, make sure that visible surfaces are not scratched or damaged (e.g. by sharp-edged tools).

Removal: 

Preliminary work needed:

The following parts must be removed as preliminary work.

For equipment specification with Head-Up Display, make sure that Head-Up Display is retracted.

Remove screw (1).

NOTE: Carry out work on the right side in the same way as for the left side illustrated here.

Unscrew the screws (1).

Release screws (1) on passenger's side.

NOTE: Shown removed here for purposes of clarity. The wiring harness is therefore not present in the graphic.

Disconnect plug connection (1) from front passenger airbag (2).

US version only (no diagram): 

Disconnect 3 plug connections (1) from front passenger airbag (2).

(Observe the notes on AIRBAG PLUG CONNECTIONS ).

Release screws (1) on driver's side.

Remove the dashboard (1) with the aid of the helper and pull out all electrical lines (2).

Installation: 

NOTE: Graphic is only an example.
Make sure that guides (1) on dashboard (2) are correctly seated in respective mountings of bulkhead.
Make sure gaskets are correctly seated on air ducts.
Insert and install foam moldings of the dashboard (2) correctly at the center.

Insert dashboard (1) with the help of a helper and connect all electrical lines (2).

NOTE: Screw dashboard (1) tightly from the middle towards outside.
Make sure all electrical lines (2) are correctly routed.

Tighten screws (1) on driver's side.

Tightening torque 51 45 1AZ .

Connect plug connection (1) of front passenger airbag (2) and lock.

US version only (no diagram): 

Connect 3 plug connections (1) of front passenger airbag (2) and lock.

(Observe notes regarding AIRBAG PLUG CONNECTIONS ).

Tighten screws (1) on passenger's side.

Tightening torque 51 45 1AZ .

Tighten down screws (1).

Tightening torque 51 45 1AZ .

Tighten screw (1).

Tightening torque 51 45 1AZ .
