31 21 090 Replacing left/right swivel bearing

Special tools required:

NOTE: When replacing swivel bearing pay attention to camber correction swivel bearings.
Camber correction swivel bearing are used to correct the camber values by ±30 minutes. To be used only if the camber tolerance values are exceeded and undershot.
Identification is made at the PART NUMBER ON SWIVEL BEARING .

Necessary preliminary work: 

IMPORTANT: Prior to installation, check sensor head and cable from pulse sensor and replace if necessary.

Removal:

Loosen screws (1).

Remove brake guard plate (2).

Slacken nut (1).

Release track rod (2) from swivel bearing.

Slacken nut (1).

Pull out screw (2).

Release wishbone (3) from swivel bearing.

If necessary, release brake pad wear sensor from holder (3).

Secure swivel bearing against falling out.

Slacken nut (1).

Pull out screw (2).

Take off holder (3).

Expand swivel bearing with special tool 31 2 230 .

Remove swivel bearing.

Installation: 

Keep press fit of swivel bearing and spring strut in lower area clean and free from oil and grease.

Expand swivel bearing with special tool 31 2 230 .

Alight gap on swivel bearing (1) to positioning pin (2) on spring strut.

Slide on swivel bearing to limit position.

Position holder (3).

Part:  Replace nut (2) and bolt (1).

Insert bolt (2).

Tighten nut (1).

Tightening torque 31 31 3AZ .

Installation note: 

Bolt head points in direction of travel.

Join wishbone (3) to swivel bearing.

Part:  Replace nut (2) and bolt (1).

Insert screw (2) with washer.

IMPORTANT: The washer must lie between the screw head and the swivel bearing.
Note insertion direction of bolt (2). The screw (2) is inserted from the rear in the direction of travel.

Screw on the nut (1).

Tighten screw connection.

Tightening torque 31 12 1AZ .

Joint track rod (2) to swivel bearing.

Part:  Replace nut (1).

Tighten nut (1).

Tightening torque 32 21 1AZ .

Position brake guard plate (2) on swivel bearing.

Tighten down screws (1).

Tightening torque 31 11 4AZ .

Required follow-up work:
