31 12 000 Removing and installing left or right wishbone
Special tools required:
Necessary preliminary work:
- Remove FRONT WHEEL .
- Remove FRONT UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
Removal:
Only for right ride height sensor:
Release screw (1).
Remove holder from wishbone.
Release screws (2) from wheel arch panel (1).
Bend wheel arch panel (1) to one side.
Release screws (2) and (3).
Attention !
Pay attention to installation position of screws (3)! Different lengths.
Release screw (4).
Slacken nut (2).
Pull screw (3) out of swivel bearing.
Release wishbone (1) from swivel bearing.
- If necessary, spread swivel bearing with special tool 31 2 230 .
Remove wishbone (1).
Installation:
Position wishbone (1).
Align wishbone (1) thrust bearing to front axle support.
Part: Replace screw (4).
Screw in screw (4).
- Do not yet tighten screw (4)!
Tighten down screws (3).
Tightening torque 31 12 3AZ .
Bend wheel arch panel (1) to one side.
Part: Replace screws (2).
Tighten down screws (2).
Tightening torque 31 12 4AZ .
Insert guide pin of wheel guide joint into swivel bearing.
Part: Replace screw (3).
Insert screw (3) with washer in the swivel bearing.
Attention !
The washer must lie between the screw head and the swivel bearing.
Consider the insertion direction of the screw (3). The screw (3) is inserted from the rear in the direction of travel.
Part: Replace nut (2).
Screw on the nut (2).
Tighten screw connection.
- Tightening is done via screw (3).
Tightening torque 31 12 1AZ .
Move vehicle into NORMAL POSITION .
Tighten the bolt (4) in normal position.
Tightening torque 31 12 2AZ .
Tighten screws (2) of wheel arch panel (1).
Only for right ride height sensor:
Align the holder using the lug with the corresponding opening on the wishbone.
Tighten screw (1).
Tightening torque 37 14 5AZ .
Required follow-up work:
- Mount FRONT UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
- Mount FRONT WHEEL .
- Carry out wheel alignment check. See ALIGNMENT CHECK WITH VEHICLE LOAD UP TO DESIGN POSITION or ALIGNMENT CHECK WITH RIDE HEIGHT MEASUREMENT (WITHOUT VEHICLE LOAD) .
