52 13 407 Replacing backrest cover for driver's seat

Special tools required: 

WARNING: Read and comply with all applicable SAFETY INFORMATION for handling airbag modules and pyrotechnical belt tensioners.
Improper handling can lead to triggering of the pyrotechnical seat belt tensioner or side airbag, resulting in injuries.
WARNING: Danger of injury!
The seat frame has very sharp edges that can cause injuries from cuts.
Exercise extreme caution and wear work gloves as required when carrying out any repair work in the area of the seat frame.

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

Removal: 

The use of a universal seat mount is recommended for carrying out the repair works on the disassembled seat.

Detach all tensioning straps (1) on the backrest cover.

Open zip fastener (1).

Detach backrest cover (2) from the brackets (3) and set it down.

Equipment specification with lumbar support: 

Carefully press backrest cover inwards until lock (1) of knurled wheel (2) is accessible.

Unlock the lock (1) on both sides of the knurled wheel (2) and remove the knurled wheel (2).

Release cover (1) and fold to the side.

Unscrew nuts (1).

Take out side airbag (1) downwards out of cover pocket (2) and set it down.

Release connector (1) from bracket.

Release cable strap (2).

Release locks (3) and take out connector (4).

Release cable (5) from all brackets and set aside with side airbag.

Version with seat heating: 

Unlock and disconnect connector (6) and take out the associated cable.

Remove backrest cover with facing from backrest frame.

Release all clamps in area (1).

Remove seat cover from upholstery.

Attention  !

Remove all remnants of clamps from seat cover and upholstery.

Installation: 

Pull seat cover over the facing.

Mount clamps starting in the area (A) and then uniformly in areas (B), (C) and (D).

Parts:  Replace clamps.

Insert new clamp (2) with special tool 52 0 050 and bend closed.

  1. Upholstery
  2. Clamp
  3. Trim wire in upholstery
  4. Trim wire in seat cover
  5. Backrest cover

Pull backrest cover with the facing on the backrest frame.

Feed in cable (5) and attach in all brackets.

Insert connector (4) in the connector housing, until the locks (3) audibly engage.

Mount cable strap (2).

Engage connector (1) in bracket.

Equipment with seat heating: 

Connect connector (6).

Parts:  Replace cable strap (2).

Fit the side airbag (1) upwards into the cover pocket (2).

Tighten down nuts (1).

Tightening torque 72 12 3AZ .

NOTE: As per the version, the backrest cover can have one airbag pouch (1) on both sides.
Ensure that the unused airbag pouch (1) is kept tightly and crease-free between the cushion and the backrest cover.

Attach cover (1).

Equipment specification with lumbar support: 

Engage knurled wheel (1).

Attach backrest cover (1) in the holders (3).

Close zip fastener (1).

Attach all tensioning straps (1) on backrest cover.
