Removing and installing or replacing alternator (B36, B38) (Cooper Convertible)
Preliminary work needed:
- Disconnect BATTERY GROUND LEAD.
- Remove CROSS CONNECTION .
- Remove SERVOMOTOR for eccentric shaft.
- Remove DRIVE BELT for alternator.
Removal:
Case installed:
Release expansion rivet (1).
Release screw (2).
Remove partition wall (3).
Unfasten fuel line (1) and disconnect.
Close fuel lines.
Catch and dispose of leakage fuel.
Lay fuel line to one side.
Unlock tank vent line (2) and remove from tank vent valve.
Put tank vent line (2) to one side.
Unlock connector (1) and detach.
Release nut (2) and remove positive battery cable from alternator.
Unscrew the screws (1).
Feed out alternator (1) and remove.
Installation:
Feed in alternator (1).
Tighten down screws (1).
Tightening torque 12 31 1AZ .
Attach connector (1).
Connector (1) must engage audibly.
Connect positive battery cable to alternator.
Tighten nut (2).
Tightening torque 12 52 2AZ .
Connect fuel line (1).
Connect tank vent line (2).
Position partition wall (3).
Tighten screw (2).
Attach expanding rivet (1).
Required follow-up work:
- Install SERVOMOTOR for eccentric shaft.
- Install CROSS CONNECTION .
- Install DRIVE BELT for alternator.
- Connect BATTERY GROUND LEAD.
