51 31 200 Removing and installing/replacing rear window

IMPORTANT:

The following notes form the basis for these repair instructions and must be adhered to at all times:

NOTE: Remove with "SPIDER ".

The following new parts are required:

Material Quantity
Rear window (with replacement) 1
Small repair kit 1

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

Attention! 

When reusing the rear window:

Avoid damaging wires for heated rear window/aerial.

Do not allow any adhesive to come into contact with the connecting contacts of the heated rear window/aerial.

Removal: 

Release screws (1).

Remove retaining strip (2).

Unfasten plug connection (1) and disconnect.

Unlock and disconnect plug connections (2) on left/right.

Release screw (3) on left/right.

Secure cable to rear window with adhesive tape.

Attention! 

Risk of damage!

Tape off body in area of piercing point with fabric adhesive tape.

Slide string out of "SPIDER " at line (1) through adhesive bead.

Cut the side window out.

Installation: 

Fitting spacer buffers: 

Attention! 

Spacer buffers are installed to avoid rear window breakage.

Remove damaged spacer buffer completely.

Bond new spacer buffer at marks.

Overview of rear window bonding:

[mm] = Position of adhesive bead to the tolerance band centrally between the tolerance band
[mm] = Width adhesive bead 8 ±2
[mm] = Height adhesive bead 12 ±1

Mount retaining strip (1) on side window.

A tolerance band is printed on the ceramic (two dashed lines) that marks the position of the adhesive bead. Place adhesive bead centrally on tolerance band.

Bead joint must be located in area (A).

Make sure tailgate is fully closed.

Carefully working on rear window with suction lifter:

Connect plug connection (1).

Connect plug connections (2) on left/right.

Tighten screw (3) on left/right.

Position supporting strip (2).

Tighten down screws (1).
