51 31 011 Replacing windscreen

IMPORTANT:

The following notes form the basis for these repair instructions and must be adhered to at all times:

Remove with "SPIDER ".

The following new parts are required:

Material Quantity
Windscreen 1
Cover, windscreen 1
Spacer buffer 5x5x20 mm 6
Small repair kit 1
Expanding foam tape 1

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

Removal: 

Depending on version: 

Unplug plug connections (1 to 3).

Do not remount the rain-light solar and condensation sensor until after  the windscreen is disassembled.

Remove CAMERA .

NOTE: Cables torn from the windscreen must not be soldered back in place. The windscreen must be replaced.

Pay attention to cable when cutting in this area.

Version with heated windscreen: 

Disconnect plug connection (1).

Secure cable with adhesive tape to windscreen.

IMPORTANT: Pay attention to cable when cutting in this area.

IMPORTANT: Tape off body in area of piercing point with fabric adhesive tape.

Slide string out of "SPIDER " along line (1) through

adhesive bead (2).

Cut out windscreen using "SPIDER ."

Remove the RAIN/LIGHT/SOLAR AND CONDENSATION SENSOR and immediately install on a new windscreen.

INSTALLATION: 

Fitting spacer buffers (spacers): 

IMPORTANT:

To avoid windscreen breakage and wind noises:

Completely remove remnants of removed spacer buffers and maintain installation location exactly.

Bond spacer buffer on mark on sheet metal flange.

Cut  A - A  B - B C - C 
[mm] = Position adhesive bead 5 ±1 5 ±1 7 ±1
[mm] = Width adhesive bead 8 ±1    
[mm] = Height adhesive bead 12 ±1    

If necessary, install RUBBER FRAME  (1), paying attention to center markings in so doing.

NOTE: A tolerance band is printed on the ceramic (two dashed lines) that marks the position of the adhesive bead. Place the adhesive bead in the outer area of the tolerance band.

Apply bead joint in area (2).

Perform the following steps carefully on the windscreen (1) using SUCTION LIFTER (51 3 010) :

Remove liner (1) and bond rubber frame (2) on roof outer skin.

Only with camera-based driver support systems: 

Carry out camera calibration via diagnosis system.

Under Service Functions menu:
