51 36 070 Removing and installing/replacing left or right rear side window

IMPORTANT: The following notes form the basis for these repair instructions and must be adhered to at all times:

General instructions on window bonding:
- See SAFETY AT WORK

- See INFORMATION ON VEHICLE PROTECTION

- See MATERIALS FOR BONDING WINDOW

- See TOUCHING UP PAINTWORK DAMAGE

NOTE: Remove with "SPIDER ".

Necessary preliminary work:

Remove ROOT TRIM STRIP
Remove COVER ON ROOF PILLAR AT REAR

Removal:

Detach edge protection (1) in area of side window.

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage!

Tape off body in area of piercing point with fabric adhesive tape.

Slide string out of "SPIDER " at line (1) through adhesive bead.

Cut the side window out.

Installation:

Installation of Dual Lock tapes:

Remove remnants of guide pin (1) and Dual Lock tapes (2) and clean bonding surface.

Apply new Dual Lock tape (2) between the marks on the body area.

Overview for side window bonding:

Mount retaining strip (1) on side window.

Apply bead joint in area (2).

b [mm] = Width adhesive bead	7 ±1
h [mm] = Height adhesive bead	12 ±1

Mount TRIM (1) .

First mount side window with suction lifter at bottom with retaining strip (2) and insert with pin (3) into body.

Position side window at top.

NOTE: When refitting, align side window to trim (1) in accordance with dimension (A).

A = 2.5 ±1 mm

Press side window onto body and engage in Dual Lock tapes.

Fix side window in position with yellow plastic adhesive tape (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Department).

Fit edge protection (1) in area of side window.
