Removing and installing rear left or right side window glass

Attention! 

• NOTES  on window bonding
• GENERAL PROCEDURE  for dismantling/installation of affixed window glass

Removal is carried out with SPIDER .

The following new parts/CONSUMABLES  are required (sourcing reference applicable BMW Group parts catalog sales).

Small repair kit	1
Velcro fastener (Dual Lock tape)	2
Supporting strip	1

Preliminary work needed: 

• Remove TRIM PANEL  for roof pillar at rear (C-pillar)
• Remove trim panel for roof pillar at rear. Refer to: LEFT D-PILLAR TRIM PANEL  or RIGHT D-PILLAR TRIM PANEL 
• Remove STRIP  on rear window glass.

Removal: 

Disconnect plug connection (1).

Fix the cable with an adhesive tape on the side window glass.

Push the cord as shown from the inside with the cord threader (1) through the adhesive bead.

Press the overmold (2) slightly to one side, so that it is not damaged by the cord threader (1).

Set up the Spider as shown.

And secure the side window glass against falling down and cutting out.

The Pins (1) are cut through at the time of the cutting..

Installation: 

Remove the remaining guide pins (1) and Velcro fasteners (2) and clean the bonding surface.

Apply new Velcro fastener (2) between the marking on car body area.

Unclip the holding rail (3) upwards and install new holding rails (3).

Overview for side window bonding: 

Replace faulty Velcro fastener (1).

b  [mm] = Width adhesive bead	8±1
h  [mm] = Height adhesive bead	15 ±1

At the time of reuse of the side window glass apply the adhesion on the cut down strip of the side window glass.

Apply bead joint in area (2).

In case of new side window glass apply the adhesion on the cut down strip of the car body.

Insert the side window glass (1) diagonally in the holding rail (2).

Fold in the side window glass (1) on the car body and arrange with the guide pins in the area (3).

Align the side window glass (1) to the car body.

Seal (2) must be fitted uniformly and in parallel on the roof.

Align the side window glass (1) as per dimension (A) to the trim (3).

A = 3± 1, 5 mm

Engage side window (1) in Velcro fasteners.

Fix side window (1) in place using yellow plastic adhesive tapes (sourcing reference applicable BMW Parts Catalog/Department).

Ensure proper lining of the seals in area (4).

Required follow-up work: 

• Mount TRIM PANEL  for roof pillar at rear (C-pillar)
• Mount trim panel for roof pillar at rear. Refer to LEFT D-PILLAR TRIM PANEL  or RIGHT D-PILLAR TRIM PANEL 
• Mount STRIP  on side window at rear
