Replacing compressor for air conditioning (Cooper base)

Special tools required: 

• 00 9 030
• 32 1 270

Refrigerant circuit is under high!

Avoid contact with refrigerant and refrigerant oil.

Read and comply with safety instructions: 

• Follow safety instructions for handling TETRAFLUORETHANE REFRIGERANT R134A  or REFRIGERANT R1234YF .
• Follow SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS  handling refrigerant oil.

Attention! 

Risk of damage! 

Restart engine only when air conditioning has been correctly filled.

Read and comply with NOTES  on compressor replacement!.

Follow INSTRUCTIONS  for opening and replacing parts in refrigerant circuit.

If Air conditioning is opened for more than 24 h: 

Replace DESICCANT INSERT  for heating and air conditioning system.

Preliminary work needed: 

• Suction the AIR CONDITIONING .
• Disconnect BATTERY GROUND LEAD.
• Remove FAN COWL WITH ELECTRIC FAN .
• Remove front right WHEEL ARCH COVER .
• Remove front UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
• Remove DRIVE BELT for alternator.

On version with brake ventilation duct: 

• Remove the right BRAKE VENTILATION DUCT .

Removal: 

Attention! 

Seal openings or lines on compressor with special tool 32 1 270 to prevent leakage of media and dirt contamination.

Unfasten plug connection (1) and disconnect.

Unscrew the screws (2).

Remove refrigerant lines (3).

Unscrew the screws (1).

Feed out compressor (2).

For replacement: 

• Adjust COOLANT OIL  level in the new compressor.

Attention! 

Danger of compressor damage! 

Danger of customer complaints due to reduced cooling power of the Air conditioning! 

Before the installation of the new compressor, it is absolutely necessary to adjust the coolant oil level in the new compressor! 

Read and comply with the SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS .

Installation: 

Position compressor (2) correctly.

Tighten down screws (1).

Tightening torque 64 52 3AZ .

Position refrigerant lines (3) correctly.

Tighten down screws (2).

Tightening torque 64 52 4AZ .

Join and lock plug connection (1).

To install the sealing rings without damaging them, use special tool 00 9 030.

Required follow-up work: 

• Evacuate and charge AIRCONDITIONING .
• Connect BATTERY GROUND LEAD.
• Install FAN COWL WITH ELECTRIC FAN .
• Install front right WHEEL ARCH COVER .
• Install front UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
• Install DRIVE BELT for alternator.

On version with brake ventilation duct: 

• Install right BRAKE VENTILATION DUCT .
