Removing and installing or replacing alternator (B48, B46) (Cooper S Convertible)
Preliminary work needed:
- Disconnect BATTERY GROUND LEAD.
- Remove CROSS CONNECTION .
- Remove FAN COWL .
- Remove SERVOMOTOR for eccentric shaft.
- Remove INTAKE PLENUM .
- Loosen DRIVE BELT for alternator do not remove.
Removal:
Release expansion rivet (1).
Release screw (2).
Remove partition wall (3).
Unlock connector (1) and detach.
Release nut (2) and remove positive battery cable from alternator.
Release screw (1) on bottom of alternator.
Release screw (1) on top of alternator.
Feed out alternator along with the screw (1) on the bottom of the alternator through the slot on the support and remove.
Preparation for installation:
Slightly push back the threaded support sleeve (2) in order to facilitate the installation of the alternator.
Screw in screw (1) into the threaded support sleeve (2). Push back the threaded support sleeve (2) with the aid of the screw (1).
Unscrew the screw (1) from the threaded support sleeve (2) again.
Insert the screw (1) into the alternator before installing the alternator.
Installation:
Feed in the alternator with the screws through the slot (1) on the support and install.
Join both screws.
Tighten screw (1).
Tightening torque 12 31 1AZ .
Tighten screw (1).
Tightening torque 12 31 1AZ .
Attach connector (1).
Connector (1) must engage audibly.
Connect positive battery cable to alternator.
Tighten nut (2).
Tightening torque 12 52 2AZ .
Position partition wall (3).
Tighten screw (2).
Attach expanding rivet (1).
Required follow-up work:
- Stretch DRIVE BELT for alternator.
- Install INTAKE PLENUM .
- Install SERVOMOTOR for eccentric shaft.
- Install FAN COWL .
- Install CROSS CONNECTION .
- Connect BATTERY GROUND LEAD.
